No signs of hatching on day 21?

Thank you both for the advice. Yeah since there are no pips I think now is the time to candle. Since I'd like to have a second opinion as well I'm probably going to do it in a few hours.

Just candled, all eggs showed dark unmoving masses. I tried tapping on them, but I elicited no responses from any of them. I've lost hope, and I think they're all dead in the shell, which is just depressing.

I actually just lost eleven eggs with similar happenings no movement but I actually had 17 hatch around them sometimes it's just not in the cards

Do you think float testing would help or should I just chuck the eggs and give up

Yeah what I meant by devoid of life was that they showed no signs of hatching or behaviour typically associated with hatching. No peeping eggs, no rocking and rolling, no nothing.
give them another day or two....I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago....the eggs had been chilled a number of times...I figured they were no good....but to my surprise they all hatched....just leave them alone for another day or so....and see what happens.....it won't hurt....if they don't hatch by then....well nothing will be lost by trying......at least you can say You gave them a chance....unless you have time constraints and can't wait. Good luck and let us know how it goes....Pollster.

I'll certainly try, but I'm suspecting that they won't make it out on their own. They were supposed to hatch Thursday and they've shown no signs of hatching since then.

At a week or so I usually candle the eggs...to look for development....then I will wait till about 18 days and check again...if I find any bad ones I get rid of them....then I just leave them alone and wait to see if they hatch...I think in the excitement and anticipation of the hatch we tend to mess with the eggs and birds more then we should....I've done it....and have decided that it's better not to handle them anymore then is absolutely necessary...but I have used my broody hens to do the job rather than an incubator....so if your incubator doesn't have a rocker thingy in it...you have to move them periodically...but I still wouldn't handle them to much....

If you are going to throw in the towel today, I would

1) candle for the side dip and increase in air cell size. If nothing,
2) water candle with 99.5 degree water. Once the water stills, watch for movement.
3) if you really want to know, open a small hole in the air cell and look in to see what's going on.

Once you get to 3 though, there's a risk of accidentally killing a viable chick.

I only assist when a chick has externally pipped and has made no progress in over 24 hours. If a chick can't pip, it probably wouldn't have hatched anyways and has something wrong with it.

I've seen the side dip and all of the masses are perfectly positioned to internally pip any second now and just are not for reasons I can't seem to find.
