Hello, this is my first time incubating eggs. The first one hatched around 28 hours ago. It's Day 20 today, and I've been checking consistently and none of the other eggs seems to be pipping. I don't believe I heard any noises or movements from them, either. Should I be worried? I was told that the first one tend to be noisy and would "wake" up the others, but only the former seems to be true.

I read that chickens are social creatures, but I'm worried about leaving the chick inside the incubator for too long. Should I move it to the brooder once it hits the 36 hour mark, regardless if any of the others hatched yet? Thanks for any help!

Hi,

No, you can actually leave that chick in there for 72 hours. They live off continuing to absorb their yolk. That's how hatcheries can ship day old chicks that take two-three days to get wherever they're going.

I'd be patient as there always seems to be an early bird. It'll just sleep most of the time anyway. You should see some pipping coming soon.

Wishing you a great hatch!

It is actually pretty active (I think? Can't exactly tell). Every time I (or anyone else) walk by or go check on the eggs, it starts chirping. I was worried it is hungry because it has been pecking on the ground for the past couple hours.

I'll try to be patient, just a little anxious. Thank you so much for the help!

I felt the same step 1. Calm down(if you are like me) 2. Wait tell day 24-25 if no progress then after they are duds(if they are that late then they will have problems most like my last ones never make it, but non of they waited that long to hatch) 3. Leave the little guy alone( like don't pick up) Also some chicken records sounds might help it helped my latest ones.

I'm definitely worried. I thought that since the first one came out, the others would soon follow. They all looked fine when I candled it Day 18 before lockdown. No signs of pipping even now. But I can't leave the chick in till day 24 either, it would be 5 days if I do.

There's nothing we can do for now so just keep a good eye on them🦅

Sorry to bother. I just checked again and saw this. The chick keeps chirping (pretty loud and constantly, and I saw some people mention it means distressed?). Is this normal? I can't seem to find anything online of anything similar. The chick is still moving around just fine and doesn't seem hurt, but I can't tell 100%.

I'm guessing it pipped on the bottom side. They do turn themselves or zip around to the top where you can see it.

And yes, sometimes they do peep loudly even.

So it's from the egg...? I'm worried it's from the chick and something happened. It's been pretty loud the past two hours. I mean, it was chirping quite a bit before, but it wasn't as loud or this long.
