So my chicks are now 6 weeks old and one of my light brahmas has a few (short) tail feathers but it appears she does not have the tailbone? part. She was one we dealt with pasty butt in when we got them and has continued to have issues with poop being stuck to her so we have to get her out every few days and wash her off. Much to her delight. Today I was really looking her over, and she has a few tail feathers but it really looks like she does not have the tail part on her. I know I am not wording that right but my brain is not cooperating..

At first, I was worried she was a roo, and the tail was just not growing in fast. But upon further inspection, it looks more like she is possibly rumpless?? Here are a few pictures, I had just washed her off and used the blow dryer some, but she's still a little wet so excuse her messy appearance..you can see the longer black feather at the back, where a tail should be. I will try to get better shots tomorrow, she was not happy with me.

Is there any concerns with this? Will she always end up with a poopy butt? I am not totally sure why she keeps getting so messy since it seems she goes ok when I have watched her.

Maybe it's a light brahma thing? Here's my girl in all her mangy glory, she's got a lot less tail feathers than my two darks.

She is adorable even all mangy! It could be though the other one I have has a normal looking tail. Im going to try to get a different picture tomorrow with my daughter holding her I think.

I'm pretty new to this as well. For whatever reason she has been a lot slower to feather out than the others. No sign of being a Roo, so I'm just calling her a late bloomer

I don't think it is a breed thing. I have six chicks and four of them, one is a BO, another is a Jersey Giant, and the other two are Australorps. I'd love an answer to this question. The tails clearly haven't been plucked out and the chicks are healthy. At about 6 weeks I honestly don't know what is wrong with them.

Hm, maybe a rumpless in the past genetics? She seems to have much much less feathers on her feet than either of my 6 + weeks had even when they were 2 weeks old.
Is her little bum all red and swollen? hard to tell from that pic but it appears it may be. Perhaps an epsom salt soak a few times a day will help to reduce that and stop the pasty butt problem?

It is red, since I had just washed off the dried poop. It seems that is happening from the lack of tail, but I'm not sure. She does have less feathers on her legs then my other brahmas as well.

I'm hoping the poopy butt thing is something she's going to possibly outgrow, because giving her a bath every few days is not really feasible for us :/ not sure if an Epsom salt bath would change anything? What would that do for her?

Do you have pictures? All of yours are tailless? There are breeds without tails, but I don't think these are ones that are usually that way. I'm thinking my girl may have a deformity

Anyone with a chicken like this? I am worried this will have a negative impact on her as she grows, so would love to know if anyone has one that doesn't have issues as an adult.
