No waste chick feeder build

OK these measurements didn't quite work for mine, then light bulb went off.
Shove cup in from bottom and mark it...then had to trim a bit more to get good tight fit without any crimps, don't think I'll need tape to hold it there but only time will tell, chicks due to hatch on 4-13....am thrilled!
Thanks so much @rbnk1 for sharing your creativity!

Apologies to @blackdog043 for hijacking your thread...was eyeing some clear pipe for your version, but alas it's only 1 1/2 dia.

No problem on the hijack:frow
A thread should be started titled "Show off your no waste chick feeder ideas" This will give others options to think about and they can all be in one place. I like the PVC tube, because I can refill it from the top and it will last quite a few days, depending on how many chicks you have and how tall the tube is. The other idea I saw was put a vegetable can on the outside of the center ring, instead of on the inside where you put the cup.

Love these ideas!

I too was sucked into buying one of the upside down feeders when I got my first chicks 5 yrs ago. Man, what a lot of wasted feed! That feed would just pour out. I ended up making a mini bucket feeder but I don't start using it until they are about 2 weeks old.

Right now I use one of those flip top tray feeders which works fine while they are little. If I can find a cup around the house that will fit, I will give this a try. Thanks!

One of these will take up much less room than the tray feeder.

Thanks @blackdog043 ! :highfive:
Well, you could hit report and have the mods change the thread title...but I think it will take off on it's own. ;)

I can see where the high capacity of the pipe would be good for certain situations, like having to work long full time days as you do.

I loved being able to work with the angle of the solo cup to get a good tight press fit with no fasteners..I think it will stay put, but there's no underestimating the destructiveness of hungry and inquisitive chicks.

One of these will take up much less room than the tray feeder.
That's what I was thinking...unless you have enough chicks to need the long tray type...which I modded a bit too.
