My oldest son is our 'chicken tender'. He's up at 6am, but doesn't usually get his chicken chores done before 8:30 or thereabouts. Our chickens are fine waiting for him - but they bust out of the coop like it's on fire to get outdoors! They have food and water inside the coop (treats and additional water provided in the run), so whenever they awaken, they'll get themselves breakfast and so forth. There are always new dustbowls in the shavings and you can tell they've been having fun in there waiting. Perhaps they pace? Not sure! Never peeked in on 'em...
Summertime, with the windows in the coop open and in the house too, I can hear our Rooster crow (despite having an insulated coop), but it's fairly muffled. Thus far, no one has complained. Our rooster is not exactly legal. (Do four neighbors with roosters too count?!)
