So one of my chicks is soooooo loud. It kicks off if the other chicks leave it to go and eat, it only settles when it sleeps or being held.
It is a bit of a weird one, was assisted hatch, smaller than others, doesnt stand up unless it's running around, missing a claw on one toe.
I've seen it eat and drink and it's not too hot or cold. It just doesnt shut up 🥴 which then triggers the others.
Is it just an oddball? Maybe the slight physical deformities are too blame for her being so vocal. Idk but she is loud.

How old? The chick could have some genetic issues that are making it unwell. The first clues are the assisted hatch and the fact the chick is under-size. It may have an immature digestive system that causes inefficient processing of nutrients and calories, resulting in always feeling cold and not having much energy.

If a chick chirps loudly when it finds itself stranded by its mates, that's normal. But the chirping stops when it's reunited. A chick that stands in the middle of its group of mates and chirps loudly doesn't feel well.

Try feeding high protein foods such as finely minced boiled egg and/or crumbled tofu with Poultry Nutri-drench sprinkled over it. That might jump start it and give it a boost in the right direction.

I'll boil some eggs up this evening and try that.
I didnt think it would survive if I'm honest. I've seen it eat and drink plenty and pooping too which was why I'm confused.
It only seems happy if its completely surround, with other chicks touching it or me holding it securely.
Their brooder plate is angled but I dont find that it huddle near the hotter end at all so dont think it's cold.
Its slightly irritating as their pen in in the living room and it's almost constant 🥴 20200426_131530.jpg

Okay upon further inspection although she wasn't huddling under the heat I put her to my chest in ym top where its warm and shes silent for the first time. I'll lower the end of the brooder and her eggs on to boil now.

Chicks with heat issues need direct contact to heat, not just radiant heat. Be careful with the heat plate. Sometimes those surfaces get hot enough to burn a chick. If it burns your hand when you touch it, it will also burn your chicks.

A solution to a heat plate that has a burning hot surface is to install some fuzzy fabric over it to diffuse the heat.

She has quietened down since I lowered it, I think where she was shorted than the others she wasnt okay with it higher up, they are all staying the other end so no burnt fluff currently. Keeping a very close eye on it.
I'd be worried to add any material as it could become a fire hazard as it states not to put things on it?
May try putting her on a self heating pad.

What you said about putting material on the plate causing a fire. If it scorches fabric, imagine what it would do to fragile chick skin, not just the fluffy down. Test the plate now with the back of your hand. If it doesn't burn your skin, it is safe for your chicks.

Not all heat plates have this danger. When folks with heat plates find out they get too hot to the touch, they return them to the manufacturer. This is the correct way to deal with dangerous products so a manufacturer will be forced to correct it.

It doesnt burn to touch but the manual states not to cover the heat plate so I'm a bit reluctant.
I've popped a hot water bottle in there now and shes snuggled up on that and quiet.
She didnt want much of the egg I boiled, packed at it once or twice and then was disinterested and I havent seen her drink for a couple hours now so I have a feeling shes on the way downhill. I've given her some electrolytes in water.
I guess time will tell.
