My step kids mom recently got chicks and one of them is super noisy! By 4am it usually has woken her up. Is this a roo behavior? The chick is about 4 weeks old. She’s not sure on the breed so any ideas on that would be helpful.

Is your chick under a heat lamp? Is its water warm, cold, or lukewarm? It should be lukewarm and she should be under a heat lamp as she is tiny. I had a rooster baby that was very loud, but not normally during the night so much. I figured there was nothing I could do. Check it’s bottom, is it all clear of dried poop? If not clean her vent immediately. If you don’t this could lead to Pasty Butt... I doubt this is the problem but it might be making your chick uncomfortable and therefore loud.

Hmmm I will have to let her know. I think my step kids said the chicks get out all the time. Are they old enough to know to go back in the box if they are cold?

To me it looks like a barred rock, Plymouth Rock, or maybe even a golden laced wyandotte.
Barred is a Plymouth rock color. Plymouth is the breed, barred is the variety.

It's not a barred or laced bird at all.

That comb makes me think possible boy, but if it's a sexlinked chick, it's female because of the lack of barring

Editing to add that I see wattles. So while still super young and very possible it's a sexlink female, I personally am leaning male black Australorp

Barred rock is a Plymouth rock (Barred is a coloring on chickens. Its the most popular Plymouth rock color, and people often call it Barred Plymouth rock.)

No clue on the breed. I know i had a very noisy one that ended up being a rooster, but that doesn’t go for all roosters because my other ones were not noisy at all. So it could be, but wouldn’t base it on that.
