Noisy Hens, - their last chance....

Hi Mosier,

Sadly we gave up the battle, and re-homed our noisey hens. It's been a stressfull few months and we have tried our utmost to make it work, but I do think we have done the right thing. - we have to live with our neighbours, and I dont think it's fair to spoil their quality of life just so I can have my own way.

Peace has returned, eggs are a distant memory, and most of the flies have moved to pastures new.

Maybe when we move.......

I never knew hens could be so noisy either. Most of the time they're quiet, but heaven forbid a hawk should fly over their (totally enclosed) pen. Then the bok-ba-gawking reverberates between all the neighbor houses. Haven't had complaints yet, thank goodness...

One thing I am finding that is helping is that ever since I moved in I started making my yard "bird freindly" - hung out feeders - all kinds of different (hummingbird finch etc), bird baths (@ different levels) & planted with them in mind (habitat, food, ground cover) so the wild bird population has exploded. We now have yellow finch, ducks, quail & most recently a crow has moved in. With all that extra noise pollution it just blends in.....

I think it's the crow that really helps, alot of us city folk can't tell the diff...

Just posted a tip for someone else...I have same neighbour probs and as soon as I hear any of mine cranking it up (can be as early as 6am

) I rush done and feed them live mealworms and tomatoes. It instantly shuts mine up and then they can go out. Get them ready the night before to make it easier. Worth a try!

I don't want to make it seem like I am trying to say you're wrong but my hens (23 of them) lay at all times during the day. Starting at 7am and sometimes not stopping until 3pm or later.

I don't really know why people always say hens are so quiet. Mine are REALLY loud and they make more noise throughout the day than my rooster!

mine all make a loud racket throughout the day when they are laying I don't think hens are quite at all.
