Noisy hens

They have been quiet all winter. Why are they all the sudden noisy?

Spring is in the air, days are getting longer and warmer, hormones are flowing...

Mine have perked up a lot and everyone's squatting for me all of a sudden.

Chickens don't have actual heat cycles but warmer weather does kickstart laying, mating, brooding, so in a way it's somewhat related, if that makes sense?

My hens molted all winter, I only have two left in the middle of a molt. They are beginning to lay more, talk more, sing more too! Yeah, they are pretty noisy recently in the mornings especially. That means they are happy! They quiet in the afternoons when they are full from foraging and dirt bathe, lay around in the sun or roost. Sounds like your chickens are laying and happy!

Right, I think only mammals have heat cycles.

Longer days (more sunlight exposure) increase hormone flow which releases ova to be turned into the egg we find in the nests.

Mine too! They are talking like crazy. Following me just cluck, cluck, cluck! So cute, these girls!
