[non-emergency] Marek's Homeopathic Treatment - Video

I SURE HOPE NOT! And I had not heard that about appenzellers But, I will definitely investigate this further as I have read that the symptoms can be the same. My gals are only 20 weeks...I don't remember exactly what I read, but I thought LL struck when they were a bit older.

Here's a link on differentiating Lymphoid Leucosis from Marek's:

It says that LL doesn't cause paralysis. That is my primary symptom. Her appetite is fine, and also the incubation period for LL is 16 weeks which would almost certainly rule it out. I did find the thread you were referring to:

I got my eggs from Gabbard and hatched them myself. EweSheep and ChooksChick seemed to say that Gabbards lines were o.k., LL-wise.

Thanks...This is great information to be aware of as far as the breed goes...Good to know because I was totally unaware of it! But hopefully I can rule LL out for the time being!

I have a hen displaying symptoms of Marek's. I just got back from the health food store with Hypericum, except they only had 6x not 30x as was in the 'recipe'. I went ahead and dissolved 5 tablets into a TBS of distilled water. I gave her a dropper full. She was fighting me a bit so counting drops was hard. She is in the house and seems to be resting comfortably. I'm anxious to see if I get good results myself.

I don't think you should use 5 pills! I think the 5 vs 30 is not the strength, it is how it is formulated to work on different parts of the body.

I hope you get this message!!! I sent you a private message too. You don't want to overdose your chicken!!!

FOWLPLAY: Moody Chicken's original post said:

IF YOU OVERDOSE YOUR BIRDS ON HYPERICUM, don't worry. The bird will exhibit extreme symptoms, and make a drastic improvment within a 24 hours. Hypericum is also helpful for pain. Only treat birds that are showing symptoms.

I would wait to see how she reacts and if she is o.k., next dose use only one pill.

NEWHOBBY:
No I would not use the regular pill form. That is made from ground hypericum which I've read can be toxic. Plus I have no idea how to dose that. The one recommended in the post was a homeopathic formula, which I think is chemically different than the regular St. John's Wort pills. You can find it in almost any health-food store, but not in supermarkets or most pharmacies unless they specialize in more natural products. Here's a link with pictures of the major brands Bioron and Hylands, so you can see what the packaging looks like:

The original post was by MoodyChicken so she may have more information. Good luck to you!!!

UPDATE: Sadly, she does not seem to be doing well this morning...(see video):

Her neck is twisted upward and to the side which I've heard called "stargazing". Her equilibrium is off, as she can't seem to hold her head normally. I am afraid it may have spread to her neck, which is not good. Although she still has a good appetite, she keeps "missing" her food when she pecks. She has been sick for 12 days now, and I fear that I may have started treatment too late. I'm hoping she comes around...Maybe I gave her too much of the Hespericum, as Moody Chicken said, they can overdose and get worse, and then make an amazing recovery. I hope this is the case! I was SO encouraged by her "miraculous recovery" yesterday, and I got my hopes up that she would recover. I will keep you all updated and thanks for your support!

Alys

p.s. Please take a look at the video and tell me if you think this is Marek's....I've never seen a live chicken with symptoms, so those of you who may have, please give me your opinion. Thanks.
