Non-GMO Organic Chicken Feed With No Added Hormones

You can buy Organic Chicken Feed at your local Tractor Supply Center, here in Bedford Pa. it cost about $18.00 per bag

What size bag is that? I had to laugh when I saw Nature's Best Organic at my TSC the other day. They are selling 10 lb. bags for $18.99! I can get a 50 lb. bag at my local feed store for $36.00! Do they really think people will pay that much for small bags?

I don't buy any feed at TSC even though we have one locally now. The county co-op gets 99% of my business and a newer feed store in town gets what they can't provide, but that's rare. Unless I have an emergency and have to shop TSC, like for first aid or meds for cocci or something, I prefer not to do so and it hasn't happened yet. I just don't like them, period. The co-op treats us right and bends over backward to get us what we need, plus prices beat TSC by a mile. So will be asking the manager, April, to get me some of the non-gmo/non-soy Tucker Milling feed if it is, indeed, the price I've seen on the web.

Cindy, I am in Ligonier. Where is your local store that has the organic feed?
Thanks,
Karen

Hum,
Look at this:, interesting : http://tuckermilling.com/startboost.html
POULTRY: FEED 2 TO 5 LBS. PER 100 BIRDS PER DAY.
This sounds great but my heritage breed needs a minimum of 22% to thrive. Maybe use this plus the booster?

Actually, my Light Sussex did really great on Min. 22% Agway Game/Meatbird. I think it is made by Cargill.

Unfortunately, my local Agway won't get it for me as they don't make as much money on it as the
Southern States brand poultry feed.
You can also read about their Non-GMO feed here. Interesting, the non-GMO feeds I have read about seem to top out at 16%.

Hi Karen. I am in SE PA. Are they selling 40 or 50 lb. bags out there? I would be happy if they would do that, but really it's the companies selling these little bags & They are outrageous!

Hey,
Somebody told me that there were hormones in some non organic GMO poultry feeds. I guess that is not true, maybe they were teasing! lol

thanks for the help. I am actually in GA. Has anybody heard of Henpeck Organic Chicken Feed? I was researching organic feeds last night, and their website popped up. Had pretty good reviews, and it was 15 bucks for 25 pounds... anybody ever tried it?

Thanks so much, everyone!!

This is a perfect illustration of the challenge food producers in the US face.

I just called the county co-op and asked about the Tucker Milling 16% protein non-gmo, non-soy feed. She's ordering some, since I'm not the only one who has asked for it, and it's only $13 for 50#. Wow, just wow. I'll let you know how it is when I get it at the end of the week. I hope this will be my new feed for everyone here since the roosters certainly don't need the calcium and I have so many who do not lay anymore as well. I've never found a good feed for the whole group around my area, but this could be it.

I thought about making my own organic feed, but where I live it would cost me so much more than buying organic feed. New to all this!!! But feeding these eggs to my granddaughters, want the eggs to be the best..

I know this is an old thread but can you tell me how the Tucker Milling food did?

The feed itself was fine, however, it is wheat and fish-based, which is why it was so inexpensive. There is no non-GMO corn in this, which would jack up the price. I've been told that necrotic enteritis has been a result of that type of non-GMO feed that contains no corn, so I never bought it again. Their normal 16% layer mini-pellets are only $11.25 and their 22%, both with porcine protein, is about $12 or $13, can't recall, so I went back to that.
