Hello,

I have a mite infestation and I also have bees, so I need to figure out a way to eradicate mites without using permethrin. Has anyone used neem oil? Or have any suggestions for what else I can use. Besides DE, that is. From what I've read, that can lead to respiratory issues, so I'm hoping to avoid it. Any help is very much appreciated!

As long as you are just spraying your chickens and their coop and not your bees it shouldn't be a problem.

You could try Elector PSP.

Thanks for getting back to me. I was worried about airborne spray drifting. They're pretty close to the coop. But I will also looking into your suggestion of Elector PSP. That's so much for the suggestion.

Remember whatever you decide to use to get rid of the mites you really do need to treat your chickens and the coop itself multiple times.
You have to break the life cycle of the mite and get all of the adults killed before they can lay more eggs.
So whatever you choose to use use it every 5 to 7 days for no less than three times.

If you treat your birds inside the coop, at night when they are roosting, the bees will be in their hives, not near your spraying efforts.
Anything that will kill mites will also kill other insects, there's no 'bee safe' insecticide.
Mites are miserable little beasts, spread by the wild songbirds, and here have come in with them when the coop doors are open.

I have bees and I use permethrin.

I haven’t had noticeable die off when I treat my coop. Bees don’t really have a reason to visit the chickens.

7 to 10 days is reapplication on birds. Coop should not need more than once as that is not where the eggs are.
This is not correct, or at least not with red roost mites.
The whole lifecycle is in the coop, with mites coming out at night to feed of the birds, before going back to the cracks where they live, breed, and lay eggs.
