the desire to play with words

It’s complicated
Sacrifice self for others
had been all my life

Over last few years
those baby steps had begun
to do stuff for me

Learning I’m worthy
been a hard pill to swallow
but, I got it down…

Powerful, it is
what You have drawn up in words
Toxic to my heart.

In the big picture
life sure is complicated

Truly, you have to
Work at a relationship.
And it's not easy.

Operative word
In that sentence, yes, it's "work;"
I learn this daily.

But over the years,
And with a lot of trials,
It has been worth it.

We are a product
formed by nature and nurture
somehow we survive.

The concept of love
to me was not natural
I had to be taught

If we are lucky
we find that person or place
that helps us survive.
