Non Shedding Dogs?

All dogs shed!! There is no such thing as a non shedding dog.

Peruvian and Mexican hairless dogs don't have a coat to shed!!

HUMANS SHED TOO! So the people that posted that their dog has hair that grows like 'our' hair, have shedding dogs.

That is why there are 'drain catchers' on showers, to catch shed human hair.

Living beings constantly shed, wether it be hairs, skin, scales or antlers.

Species, breed and nutrition factor into the amound shed, but everyone does to some extent.

Any references for this statement? My understanding is they are hairless due to a genetic defect that affects hair and teeth cells.

Worked with mexican Hairless once - some do have hair, some do not. The ones that do not have a little hair on their heads, and legs but they are nothing but skin...it takes a little getting used to - a bald dog...it just isn't right!

You actually have to use lotion/sunscreen on their skin since it is exposed to the elements constantly. Don't know if it is a genetic defect or not, but they have been bred for the hairless trait...sometimes you get it, and sometimes not. Amazing what selective breeding can produce (good or bad!).

Also - you have to watch Labradoodles (or any of the poodle crosses for that matter) - they are being bred and marketed as hypoallergenic, but that is not always so. Poodles and Bichons are the only breeds that I have heard of that allergic people don't have trouble with.

There are sprays (Allerpet) that you can put on dogs and cats to help reduce allergic reations, but I've heard mixed reviews.

Don't know if it is a genetic defect or not, but they have been bred for the hairless trait...

What I read is that it's a genetic mutation/defect, and they are using it to study similar human defects.

They say the hairless terriers are born with fuzz and become fully hairless around 8 weeks old.
