I know several people have mentioned using the rubber shelf covering for the floor of the brooder for the first few days instead of news paper.
I just found another neat thing!

They are plastic squares used for cross stich craft projects.
These are about the size of a piece of paper and are flexible, yet stiff enough not to bunch up like the rubber can do. Very easy to clean and disinfect. The holes are small enough that only the smallest particles of feed fall through.
Has anyone else ever tried this?

i'll give them a try in a few weeks. for us guys, where do you find those squares?

craft or fabric stores (Michael's, Jo-Ann, etc ) or the fabric or craft section in "big box" stores such as Wal-Mart ...the stuff also shows up quite often in thrift stores ...

Hobby shop, craft shop, sometimes the craft department at WalMart and such places carry them. They are used for cross stich projects (those framed pics and sayings that are kind of like embroidery)
