Non-Soy Feed?

We're using the countryside Organics. Shipping was only $16.50 to NY, so it wasn't that bad.

I agree about making your own. Too many things can be missed. Balanced and complete from a reputable source is the best for ease and peace of mind.

We use a soy and corn free feed from a company called Scratch and Peck Feeds. They also have a soy free formula (that has corn). We like that this is made locally, and from local growers (luckily for us they are 2 mins away so no shipping). This is a great company and they have a very informative web site, just google them. Hope this helps.

We also use Countryside organic and soy free feed - started with chicken starter and just bought our first bag of grower. There is a small mom and pop greenhouse near us that carries it. I second the idea to ask if a store near you will order it for you.

I am lucky in that I live 15 miles from Countryside Organics, so I don't have to pay shipping, but their feed is worth the price and I would pay shipping if I had to. Not only is the feed soy-free, it contains Icelandic kelp and Fertrell Poultry Nutri-balancer. It does contain non-GMO corn, but it is way down on the list. They use high protein field peas for the vegetable protein and also fish meal for protein that you can't get from plant sources.

I started my chicks on Countryside Organic feed, and that's all they have ever had, so I can't compare their smell after switching, but when I was reading all the posts about smelly chicks in the brooder, and people changing bedding a couple of times a week, I was wondering why mine never smelled, though I only changed the bedding completely twice in six weeks. I have a very sensitive nose and I didn't find them smelly at all. Dusty as all get-out, but not smelly. I wonder if it was the organic, soy-free feed???

I started out with Countryside chick feed, but the shipping doubles the cost for me, so I found I can order a soy and corn free feed through Azure Standard and save the shipping costs:
https://www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/1044/

I've got an order arriving tomorrow.

I (and more importantly my girls) love love love the Cascade corn/soy-free mash. I ran out and got some soy-free pellets to tide us over, and they're picking around the pellets to get to the last crumbs of mash. You try to tell me there's no difference, but I will beg to differ - the girls know what's good stuff!

The Anti-Soy zealots will continue to post propaganda from sources such a Mercola and the Pro-Soy proponents will post information from the Soybean Board or Land Grant Universities, none will be moved.

The bottomline for me is for the Poultry Owner to feed what they are comfortable with whether it is a home-made ration with 40 ingredients, an Organic complete feed, or a Comemrcial complete feed from a traditional feed manufacturer.
