Non-Timid Rat hanging around coop in day time!

In my experience, if you see one rat, there's dozens more that you are not seeing. And rats are destructive. They are able to chew through concrete. KILL IT! (Just my opinion) Don't re-locate it to make it some one else's problem.

This is true about them being able to chew through concrete.. I've seen it! They are so hard to get rid of.. we had two HUGE black rats here that chewed through the foundation of the house. Doesn't even sound believable, but it's true!

Can't go past a good cat that knows its job, I reckon. Even when well fed a decent cat will work for its keep. My cat's well over a decade old, has a dislocated front leg, and only two fangs left, and still managed to kill that rat that was bigger than herself. But she, like our other cat, didn't want rodents to begin with; we encouraged them and like dogs cats can be keen to work with you, or to do as you indicate you'd like them to do. Now both are active mousers and ratters, though they don't usually eat their kills. Which is fine in suburbia, as the rodents could be rat-sacked.

This rat is NOT small... he was the size of a large guinea pig or small rabbit with a long tale. I was really taken a back when I saw it.

Still they can get into very tight places

Rat has vanished on its own accord, probably got eaten by one of the neighbourhood cats. We've had no problems for over a month now. Thank you all for your help xx
