i sucks when your favorite animals die, its a terribly thing to deal with, im soo sorry, all u can do is think about the good times and move on with raising ur chickens & maybe get another chicken, it wont replace your baby, but u can create new memories with a new chicken. He will always be with u, in your heart. I hope u feel better soon!

AWWWW, he was so handsome. Please put that picture in a frame and display it near you. I did that with Dumb Dora.
You'd think it was depressing, but it's not....It's a way to celebrate his life with you. He was a lucky chicken to have someone love him so dearly.

I'm so very sorry. I've been there. Head and body hunting is no fun. I had 6 of mine killed by a weasel in one night. Hid a few of the bodies and I had to hunt for them, I still never found my silkies head... It's so sad...

At least he lived happily with you and had someone that missed him when he was gone.

I know it won't bring your baby back -- but Westies are born to hunt. They are bred to mindlessly pursue small animals in rock piles and brush piles. Mine would dig up moles out of the ground. They are specially bred to have a stocky tail, meant for the owner to use haul them backward out of a brier thicket or pile of rocks, because they CAN'T stop once they start pursuing. The dog couldn't help it. Whatever triggered his "hunt" behavior with your chick, he couldn't stop once it started.

One day you'll find another little roo to love. It won't be the same, but it will make the pain a little less.

Ohh I'm so sorry! I hope you feel better soon, even though I realize that seems hollow right now. At least you have many, many people on here who know and can relate that he wasn't just a chicken or even just a pet. He was family! I hope you're comforted by all the good memories

I am SO sorry to hear about your baby...I'd be devastated if anything happened to mine.

We put our 6 girls out into the coop about a week and a half ago. We took the dogs over to the fenced area on leash to try and "introduce" them...Ella wagged her tail and appeared to just not give a rip, but Kate went insane, wanting to get the birds. My dogs are a third Labrador Retriever, so it makes sense that Kate watches birds all the time and chases them when they land in her yard...

We had to make the decision to hotwire the area around the coop...Kate was determined to get in and was ready to go through the chicken wire to do it. The hardest thing about the electric fence was having to let her get shocked. We thought that would be enough, but later the same day she went back and did it again. I also heard her yelp a couple of mornings ago, so she's still trying.

I know others have said it, but it really isn't your fault...The ways of nature can be quite cruel. My husband says I'm a little too attached to our chicks, since so many things could happen to them. I know you miss him and my heart hurts for you. I'm glad he had you to love him, and he had you to love. Feel better soon!!
