Hello. I babysat my daughter's chickens for two weeks during the start of COVID-19, and had fresh eggs every day. I enjoyed them so much that I decided to get my own, and our town recently legalized them. It just happened that my daughter was in the process of placing a chick order, so I joined in. I'm starting with four chicks, due to arrive in late April. The brooder is mostly set up; my contractor is building a coop at his place right now and bringing it over to my yard in a week.
My great Grandparents and Grandparents raised chickens for eggs and meat for many years in the area. I remember playing there as a kid, but we were never allowed to touch the chicks.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
see above
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
none, but chicks are coming in 3 weeks
(3) What breeds do you have?
Two Black Copper Marans and Two Cream Legbars
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Personality, Fresh Eggs, and Bug Control. Least will probably be poop. Hoping I can tolerate the poop.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Beekeeping, gardening, reading, fashion, horseback riding
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Two mostly indoor disabled rescue Main Coon cats
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Search engine, about two weeks, I need to ask some questions that my immediate circle of friends might not know
