Hi, a couple months ago I got chickens, and I haven’t for the life of me been able to figure out their genders. Every time I think I’ve got it right, something happens to surprise me. A couple weeks ago, Storey’s brother Tilly, yes, Tilly, started crowing. He was the most dominant one of the lot, big comb, big feet, pretty tail feathers. He looked like image 1. Stormy, the “sister”, always had obvious growing tail feathers when they were young, but I thought it turned out to be nothing, since we’re passing the 4 month mark on Stormy now. I thought it would’ve been more obvious. The next 4 images are pictures of my chickens, two of which I think are roosters. However, I would love some more experienced insight. In order from no. 2, there’s Stormy (4mo), Cammie (4.5mo), Kiro (1.5mo) and Tigerlily (1.5mo). Stormy and Tilly (the first one) are siblings, and so are Kiro and Tigerlily. I’m pretty sure Kiro is a boy, however I feel it’s a bit young for him to start crowing, which was why I was surprised, since I thought at this point the older two must be hens. Not so sure anymore. Someone in my family mentioned that dominant hens can crow, and since it is a quieter crow that happens once a day, I’m not sure, though I don’t know if hens do that at this age, wouldn’t think so.
