Noob question about grit and oystershells

I know they are supplements and offered 'Free Choice'

Here's my stupid question... how do you offer them? Do you mix them in with scratch or do you put them in a second feeder or a wall mounted feeder or.. ???

It just dawned on me this week end I have no idea how to offer them.

I just put oyster shell or grit in separate bowls in the coop.

I don't offer grit since my chickens free range. Their oyster shell I pour in a pile under the overhang of an outbuilding. The girls know where it is and help themselves.

Yeah, I don't do grit either since mine free-range most of the time. I have oyster shell in a bowl that is attached to the side of their run.

Don't mix either in with scratch or any other food, and don't mix them together. Just offer it by itself free choice. They will eat as much as they need.
