Getting rid of roosters

Pics
I have 2 cockerels (that were purchased as pullets!!) I've been trying to place ever since they were identified as cockerels (over a month ago). The hatchery was no help, even though these chicks were supposedly identifiable/sexed at hatch!! They have some crazy 90% accuracy rule, that doesn't apply if purchased at Tractor Supply!! (just a heads up).

I feel I've tried my best to place them (for FREE):
- FB deleted my ad on Marketplace ... even though I tried the "up for discussion" tag ... I got a nasty note saying I violated their rules ... something about animal fair trade laws or humane laws.
- I've tried craigslist with no luck.
- Tried posting in local farm stores ... no luck.
- I've tried local farmers & animal control with no luck.
- I've tried BYC ... still no luck.
- I even took a class recently on how to slaughter and process chickens, but I don't have the heart to slit their jugular and watch them jerk around in the cone upside down as they bleed out.

Any other suggestions on how to connect with folks that want cockerels would be greatly appreciated.

And as a last resort, several members here have posted that people in their neighborhoods will accept live chickens and returned them plucked, cleaned, and wrapped for freezing for a fee. There is absolutely no shame in fearing that you can’t do it quickly and cleanly yourself.

Your Extension service might know of some, although we’re generally restricted from recommending businesses.

I would help, but I'm unsure if I'd have the time. I wouldn't charge anything though.

The cooperative extension is where I landed. Fair week just ended in our county, so I’m waiting until the 4-Hers decide if they want one of them before they are all taken care of otherwise.

I didn’t have any problem posting free birds on social media. There are also homestead social media groups where bartering and trading sub groups exist if that helps.

I hope you’re able to find a solution soon.

Please let me know how things go in your quest to solve your rooster dilemma. Another place that I’ve noticed people taking cockerels/roosters is on social media in local chicken enthusiasts groups.

Good luck!

Thanks for the really great ideas, but I'm not on any social media platforms (FB, IG, TicTok, X, etc., etc., etc). Needless to say, BYC is about as "social" as I get. 🥹 Is there one "social media" platform in particular and the name(s) of the "chicken enthusiasts" groups I can search on?

Im not all that interested in social media either, but my blue seal person told me that the local FB chicken enthusiasts group might help. I see you’re from Georgia, maybe try Georgia Chicken Enthusiasts? The group would need to be local to be effective. Check with your local feed store people too.

You got this.
