I'm so sorry...

I am soo sorry for your loss.

The electric fence is a very effective tool. I have one at the top and bottom of my dogs fence, they usually only touch it once then stay well away from the fence.

Surprisingly enough the 3 adult hens I have never go near the dog fence much less go in it.

I'd be pretty mad if one killed our chickens, but even more angry if it bit or tried to bite a family member. This brings to mind something that happened to me. I was walking my dog, a schnauzer/yorkie mix who is very well-behaved and was on a leash. A dog on the street that crosses ours ran out and bit at the air beside my leg and then went after my dog. The idiot dog owner just stood there and watched without even calling her dog. I was so mad that I told her to keep him in her yard because he might end up dead if he bit me or my dog, who is like a child to me.

The next day, her friend showed up at my front door and blessed me out. She threatened to set her pit bull out on me when I walked by next time and made other threats about killing me and my dog. I went to the police station and talked to them about it. First and foremost, that crazy woman was told not to come back on my property and warned that she would be in deep trouble if her dog attacked me while I was walking my leashed dog on a public road.

I was also told that if a dog attacked me or my pet on my property or on the road, I was within my rights to kill it to protect my pet (or myself). You may want to check with law enforcement in your area. I now walk with a taped up PVC pipe that my husband rigged for me to beat dogs with. I haven't had to use it yet, but I don't leave home on foot without it.

Don't get me wrong, I am an animal lover. I would never hit or injure an animal out of meanness. I would to protect my own dog or my child, though.

I love dogs but some people never learn and let there dogs run free to terrorize everyone .

I am sorry to hear about your chickens, that is such a sick feeling, I woke up one morning to ours all around the yard, neighbor dogs killing for fun, talked to the neighbor about it and he suggested we pen up our chickens...! So his dogs could still run the neighborhood, DH was so angry he just walked away. After years we just got more chickens and this time we are using electric wires all around, and our chickens won't be able to free range

This is about when I would "accidentally" start forgetting my antifreeze outside every time I "worked" on my truck......ho hum hmmm. If it comes on my property who knows what I could have "forgotten"

And you can call AC any time you see their dog off their property if you have leash laws in your city. Enough complaints do add up. AC can't seem to catch dogs around here, but they do respond to complaints. They could also get fined for not having a city license, or a current Rabies tag, or who knows what else you could point out.

I am so sorry for the loss of your chickens. It just irks me to no end that dogs are running loose and doing these things.

We have a dog that is constantly on our property and I'm terrified that he's going to get in with my chickens and ducks. Even though we're beefing everything up, I'm afraid of what might happen.

My LGD can't get here soon enough!!!

I am very sorry to hear of what happened. This once happened to me. My dad was living with us a while and he had pet wolves. He moved but didn't come and get his dogs for a while. Well, while we were at work, they somehow got out of their pen and killed every chicken, rooster, and duck I had. I was soooooo mad. I made him come get them. I was so discouraged that I didn't even want to get anymore for a couple months. My 2 boxers go into the coop and run with me and NEVER have they even tried to chase anything in there. Not even the goats.
