Normal molting behavior?

A weird thing I didn’t really notice with her was how pronounced her back end had become- I guess you would sort of say the area far below the cloaca. It looked like a fat pouch, it’s squishy.
From below vent(cloaca) to down between legs?
Water belly, or ascites, can have several causes, infection and/or organ damage.
Can be hard to see even when large, almost have to feel for it, once you know it, it's easy to spot.
Best of cLuck!

Yes that’s the area I’m trying to describe. From the molt she lost feathers there and now I see how bloated she looks. According to the ultrasound it’s not free fluid they are seeing in the area, but more like inflammation with possible soft shell impaction in the lower reproductive area. tapping the abdomen wouldn’t do anything in this case. Bloodwork came back normal except for elevated calcium. Thanks for the well wishes, she will need good cLuck to recover with meds alone!

The pics don’t do it justice, but here’s what I’m seeing.

I also have a chicken (sweet little EE) who has had a rough molt. She just kind of stays away from the group and I’m trying to give her BOSS but she doesn’t seem to want them. So what you guys are saying makes sense. Maybe she just doesn’t want the other chickens near her while her feathers grow in. One of the older hens is a little grouchy with the younger so she probably doesn’t want to risk getting a peck on those sensitive pin feathers
