One of my pullets (red sex link) started laying on Sunday. I found an egg on Sunday then on Monday. Tuesday, Wednesday and today... nothing... is this normal for a newly laying pullet or do I have to find a hidden nest? She is free ranged all day. The first two eggs were found in the coop...

I'm having exactly the same thing happening. I posted it about it earlier and someone said that it was normal, though chickens will find odd places to lay eggs. Since mine also free range during the day, it could be quite a hunt! This is 2 chickens - both layed great for 2 weeks, then nothing. Hoping for some tomorrow!

I know that chickens will sometimes take a day off, But also look for another nest. I have 8 RIR's that was laying 6-7 eggs a day then all the sudden one day 4 eggs the next 5. I thought maybe since the days are getting shorter they are laying less. Then the next morning I see one go into the duck house. Later I went to check and found 8 eggs. That day I got 11 eggs out of 8 chicks.

After that I always check the duck house.

I'd be looking for hidden nests. Whenever I've had a decrease in egg production I attributed it to "just chickens taking a break." Each time I have found a mother lode of eggs in a hidden nest shortly after. Once chickens start laying, they lay like clock work all season. Rarely do your production breeds miss even a day.

Good luck.

whenever we first started having chickens our golden comet layed them on our front porch before in the coop. when the other ones started i had to have our kids play 'easter egger hunt' more than half of ours are EE mutts

Found a blue egg in the nest box this morning, so I know Violet is laying. Mimi does the green eggs so haven't see any from her yet. Will keep an eye out and am going to send my 8 year old on a hunt through the yard this afternoon!
