I have a gorgeous New Hampshire Red rooster that I rescued from a live poultry market (he should have been someone's lunch). I weighed him today and he is fifteen pounds. Is this exceptionally large?

I should add, is he show worthy? He is a huge scaredy cat and doesn't like to be held much, would this disqualify him for showing?

He looks to be a cross and not a pure New Hampshire.

* Note that the breed is a New Hampshire and not a "New Hampshire Red". There is only one breed that has Red in its name and that is the Rhode Island Red.

Most New Hampshires out there are not true to breed, and are actually underweight because of their over-breeding for production layers.

Your rooster has too low of a tail, too thick of legs, and too meaty of a breast for a typical production New Hampshire. He looks to me like a Freedom Ranger or a cross.

Even heritage and show type New Hampshires look like THIS . Still different from yours.
