Normal ?

My Sapphire Gem started to lay last Thursday,July 19.She layed 4 eggs,the 5th one had no shell and she stepped on it. That was the last egg she laid. Is this normal when they first start laying ? She is 5 months old.

Apsolutely , the first few weeks can be a bunch of messy eggs, really small ones, no shells, thin shell . Basically her body is adjusting to this whole egg laying thing.

Give her time ,soon she’ll be laying them regularly ... then she’ll molt and stop laying, it’s never dull with chickens
