I have a small flock of eight hens, 1-2 years old, and one Ameraucana rooster, 1 year old. He is normally not a problem, pretty well behaved. The hens show a little wear and tear from him, but no more than is o be expected I would think. The hens do more damage picking at each other, and several are missing feathers above their wings. So I thought I'd "treat" these raw-looking areas with Blu-Kote spray to help soothe the area, and thought the blue color would deter the other hens from further picking. However, the instant I sprayed these hens, the rooster went absolutely berserk and started chasing these hens around the yard relentlessly. So much so, that I had to remove him, and he's now confined to a dog crate. I'm not sure if I should try to re-introduce him to the flock after a few days, or to just get rid of him. Any thoughts?
