Norman the Rooster

Norman is officially down to five sickle feathers and zero main tail feathers. Definitely a hard molt! The rest of his body is covered in pin feathers, so I've had to limit the snuggling. :( He's still very active and cheery despite his lack of feathers!

A good shot showing his bad eye vs. good. It doesn't seem to hurt him or affect his behavior much, though he cannot see out of it, so he does occasionally bump into things on that side. It occurred prior to my ownership, but I'm inclined to think it's an injury rather than a birth defect. I imagine it occurred when he was very young.

You should get an eye patch for his bad eye :gig

, maybe Norma could function as a seeing eye hen and stay on his bad side. That sometimes happens with good animal buddies. I know with dogs one dog pulled the blind one along by the ear to help her find things.

 I dunno how Norman would feel about that

He actually gets even more frenzied when she's around. He gets so excited trying to find treats for her that he just ends up spinning in circles. "Hey, I found something! Oh no where'd it go? Oh there it is! Oh wait..."

Norma was a very good model today. I tried to get photos of her showing what I consider "ideal" shape, with her tail at about the same height as her head. Since tail carriage is partially behavioral she of course doesn't always look like this, but it's definitely part of the unique shape I want to fix into the breed. Lighting wasn't great so her beetle green wasn't as obvious.

I've got five eggs currently collected, and I imagine by the time I have the necessary Serama eggs to fill the hatch, I'll have six. She's been laying basically every other day like clockwork. Here's one of them in comparison to a Serama egg (right) and a typical brown production layer egg (left). Not bad for a small hen.

Norman I didn't know you were handicapped. That makes you all the more precious.

That's so cute that he tries to find Norma treats. I hope you give him extra treats to share with Norma.

Norma's pics were gorgeous. No wonder Norman is is in love with her. That's great she's laying eggs and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they are fertile.

Give Norman my love and thanks so much for sharing them with us.

That had me rolling! It is hilarious to imagine that, poor guy lol.
Yay! Hoping those eggs are fertile! It's going to be a long 21 days when you start them incubating!
It will be more like 19, bantams are early birds. Every one I have hatched hatched right on day 19... I could be wrong about that though.

Whenever it happens, those mini Normans & Normas are going to be adorable!
