Double - I am so so sorry for your losses!!

There are no words to say that can be said that will ease the pain, so please know that you are getting

a plenty from us!! Thought DP might stand for Delaware Pullet, but then realized you were looking for a roo, so I too am a bit lost there?? Sorry.

It seems like last night was the night for unwanted guests!! Our big (and I do mean BIG) opossum is back, he was actually SITTING on our doorstep last night.

DH actually went outside trying to kick it, but sadly he is neither flexible nor fast enough to give that opossum the boot!!

We are waiting for our finances to get in a better spot and the first thing we are going to purchase is a gun!! Had the neighbor show up the other day to tell us we had some wild boar just on the other side of our tree lines as well...not sure what wild boar do damage wise aside from eat crops, but I do NOT want to be unprepared. Might be heading into Wendell this weekend to check out Perry's Gun Shop and test fire a few to get an idea of what I can handle!! Today feels a little colder, perhaps we will finally get to experience some winter?!? I'm off to wait for the replacement tiller to be delivered this morning, then doing some much needed grocery shopping!!

. If the dogs you got have collers, you might be able to find their owners and get them to pay for the lost birds.

Double A - so sorry for your losses! Ugh I know its devastating to lose your birds to darn dogs. If your coops were closed look close today to see if the dogs scratched or pulled the doors open, or if your sure they couldn't have done it. Invest in some hotwire and some type of locks on the doors, I use barrel locks, simple but keep the doors locked closed and about the only thing that can open them is a person.

If you want I have a pen of Dark brahmas and a couple EE girls, you are welcome to some of their eggs for hatching for price of shipping - just trying to help you get some new chickens for 2012 going.

I will keep an eye out for some of the other breeds you want.

People around here don't put collars on their dogs because they dont want to be held responsible.

DP=Dual Purpose I raise my chickens for eggs and the extra roosters go to Freezer Camp

Thanks for all the egg offers but I don't incubate.

Doors all have HOOKS on them.....no damage to the coops.....what does THAT tell you??

I wonder if you didn't have someone come and let the chickens out for the dogs to play with if the coop was all locked up tight? I don't know much about dogs, but I would think they would have done damage if they were the ones to get the coop open. Maybe some local teenager up to no good (or an adult)?? NOT trying to cause trouble, just trying to help think of ALL the possibilities. I'd love to help you out, but the only BCM I have is my girl who seems to STILL be sick with some unknown issue...the rest of my flock aren't laying at the moment, which wouldn't help you either because you don't want to incubate (which I do NOT blame you)!! I hope things clear up for you and you are able to get your wish list items. If I hear of anything I will be sure to let you know!!
