Well.. Lukes, hope you feel better.
If I run into Cocci, I use Sulmet. 2 tablespoons per gallon of water and give it to them for 3 days. Should clear right up. If your birds touch the ground or you do, they will have Cocci. They grow immune to it as the grow up. Just another pain in the butt thing we have to deal with with our chickens.

Good Morning everyone....
Kids are heading back to school today.

I told them I was going to lay around all day eating bon-bons.

smart a**%& went and checked the freezer.

As IF I have time to lay around and eat bon-bons. *sigh*

Not worries NH! I have some of my beds over the leech field, its more a concern about damage roots can do to the pipes rather then contamination issues. The root systems of the plants and the grass and the septic filter system itself is WONDERFUL. That in itself takes care of most contaminates. Contamination usually occurs when the plant has had direct contact on the leaf/blossom/fruit area of the plant. So you are more then safe. Just be careful that deep rooting systems on a plant (shrubs, trees, even some tomatoes) are strong and go DEEP... they can cause damage to pipes.

OOhh, thanks for the heads up Vfem!! We were thinking of expanding (because I ordered oats...hehe) the garden area and that would take us up to the edge of the leach field, so I was worried. If I plant my lettuce and such there, it would be okay because they have "short" roots, right? You have raised beds though, so doesn't that help to eliminate the roots issue?? So glad DH is going to be planting as I can barely see my toes with this huge monstrosity...I mean baby belly!! LOL

Can't blame the kids...I'd check the freezer for bon-bons too!! My grandmother use to get them and they'd always be a treat for us!!
droolin.gif
I drool at the mere mention of them!! You can always come here and "lay" around...lol, but you'd have to bring bon-bons now that you mentioned them!! HAHA. How did your fencing go? Did you get it all put in? What kind of post hole digger (thingie) are you using? DH wants to go out and buy a gas powered auger thingie to do the digging. Boys and their toys!!

How is everyone this morning? I hope you are enjoying the mild weather, I know two things. 1) my chickens are loving the weather and 2) the baby seems to think that this weather means it's tap-dancing season!!

I've had an early morning already...DD woke up as DH was leaving and started...."MOW" - yes, that's right, "meowing" at the top of her lungs. To top it off...my cat joins in and starts racing around the house. CRAZY!! I have officially pretended NOT to hear her for the past hour
hide.gif
because I refuse REFUSE to let her get up before 7:30am!! I'm such a mean mommy!! LOL Have a great day everyone!!

Luke- Feel better soon!!

For your viewing pleasure...... just took these about an hour ago. All are doing well and starting to run around like crazy! We can tell today they are starting to gain some weight and getting better at bottle feedings. Momma on the other hand is starting to realize she has four kids driving her nuts.

Oh My Goodness HT they are precious.... Happy to hear they are doing great too...

NewHomesteader, my husband just fenced around our front yard and I tried to get him to rent an auger, but he insisted on using the old timey post hole digger..It still only took him three afternoon to put a cute picket fence almost all the way around the front! Since we live right on Highway 97, I never let our son play in the front yard, but I'm trying to make it more useful!

NH.... we put up a plain old welded wire 5' fence, using metal T post. They are put in with a hammer.
lol.png
I did 1, the kids did the rest.
lau.gif
They LOVE using a hammer ! So 1 banged shin & 2 smacked fingers later.....
gig.gif
it really isn't funny, but we all laughed later. But Nanny ( my mom) bandaged up the fingers and they got right back out there to help...little troopers !!!

We put up some fencing for my horse last summer, my DS, 11 years old dug ALL the holes with a post hole digger, He brags to anyone that listen about that fence he built.
big_smile.png
Our ground is soft and very easy to work with, but if you are fencing all your property... then yes let DH get the auger. That is A LOT of holes.

Lukes glad you feel better...

HT.... get any rest yet???? Now that I fenced in the birds and I am planning to add on, the kids want goats and EMUs
barnie.gif
th.gif
We need to seriously talk about this....
old.gif
I will not be getting up every 2 hours to bottle feed baby goats or have Emus with separation anxieties issues.
