This is the run my DH made for me. We got this DELUXE dog house off of CraigsList for only $50(and its really nice!!!). The black barrel is compost that he made too. This is the Silkie house. You can see my one hen peaking out. They have been in here since last Saturday and only one of my girls had gone out of the coop...What gives? Im starting to get a lil worried. I think I may give them a lil "push" to go explore the run 2morrow.

Here is the backside and as you can see they are just there hanging out....crazy chickens!

Good evening! I how everyone had a great day today! Very warm and pollen-y, but nice. Dh and I have been remodeling our front porch this week and we finally got the steps (almost) in. And now for lots of primer and paint. I'm hoping we will be finished this weekend.

I got a surprise today from my hens-10 out of 12 (though one doesn't count, she has chicks) laid an egg! :woot that is the first time ever that has happened, and now I'm swimming I'm eggs. I have 8 dz in the fridge. Not bad at all.

For those that process extra roos...how old are they when you process them? Is it possible to get a fryer out of them...one that's not too tough to flour and fry? Dh wants to fry one so bad, but it seems they're all too chewy. Thanks for any and all pointers.

Evening everyone! For your viewing pleasure, a few pics of the chocolate crew. They are growing good but soo slow to feather in, and if I look at them they think I am going to kill them.

My mom is curious.. We are going to Chickenstock and taking some of our RIRs. they will be 2 months old by then. How much should we charge when selling them? I know they wont be much cause theyre hatchery, not heritage but theres my question. Also same ? for same age black PQ silkies.. I may have to sell 2 or 3 of those too

Mother says we need to downgrade a little.

ETA: what is WCA? i get that its an auction but a little more detail would be greatly appreciated:)

Picked up 2 leghorns and a polish (not sure if it is pure or a mix) today from our breeder. Now all I am waiting in is a couple Lakenvelders to hatch so I can get a couple of those too. I wasn't originally interested in them till I saw the parent stock. They are gorgeous birds! The funniest part is the breeder is actually related to me through marriage. He is married to a 2nd cousin of mine. He may be able to get ahold of some maran eggs to hatch out too. If he does I have already told him I want at least 2 of them.

On another note all 6 of our hens are laying now!

I got 3 green eggs, a very pale blueish egg, and 2 brown eggs today. Now I just have to start selling eggs because there is no way I can go through 3 dozen eggs a week!

Is there anything special I need to know about selling eggs? Do I need a special permit or anything? I am just selling them as eating eggs.

what color is his lakenvelders?
