Ohmygosh that is soo cute! Did he get up there all by himself? And did he ride without falling off? I didn't even know chicks could do that! I have always incubated mine, so I'm having momma and chick envy!

Somebody was to lazy to run through the clover, and hitched a piggy back ride

If you ever have one brood you may never want to use an incubator again... what a precious pics wilds...

Wild - that is possibly the CUTEST photo I have ever seen!! Not that I didn't already have chick envy, but I can certainly say that I am wanting one of my gals to go broody so I can watch as you all have!!

We got very little accomplished today thanks to the weather.

We did manage to install a new ceiling fan in our living room and switch a few other fans around so we could put one in DD's room as it gets quite stuffy in there. We don't keep a window open because her bed is just the right height that she could climb into the window and possibly fall out!! We'll wait until she's a little older and understands that she can't play on/in windows first!!

I made an attempt to make my first ever batch of sour dough from a starter that I worked on ALL night long. Little did I know that it's an ALL day process (I think I may stick to just WW bread unless this is to die for tasty). It is now cooling on my counter, so I can't even force DH to taste test it to see if I failed or not. LOL. Besides, DH is on his way home with our newest addition!! We are now the proud parents of a 6 week old calico kitten (I am going to keep repeating this so maybe I'll believe it, but this is DD's kitten). She is looking for a name (easy enough for a 20mo old to say!!) and will be quite a surprise for DD when she wakes up in the morning!! Hopefully our old tom cat will not mind having such a young girlfriend!!

OOHH and while we were at the store, DH suggested buying a "Koi pond" style pond for him to install for us to have ducks...rather than him digging a hole for the kiddie pool that we have. I told him I'd let him do whatever he wanted. He said for now, since we don't have ducks, we can keep the kiddie pool for them and once we're in the process of getting them, he'll dig and bury a pond for them.

I think he is officially HOOKED!! Gotta love chicken math!! Have a great evening everyone!!

I have a problem with something people are saying on here. It is a bit of information that is just flat out WRONG.

Hens with chicks are not wonderful or precious or the greatest thing ever. WHY? Because, when you have a hen with chicks you can get NOTHING done. All day all you want to do is watch them to see what they do next. Not to mention the time you spend getting a camera, taking pictures, and then sending those pics to everyone you know. They are time sucking little balls of fluff that are just too blasted cute. You may have guessed by now that I am kidding.

I will be picking up a group of day old pullets from shook poultry in less then 3 weeks. I am picking up 68+ that will be down to 6 comets and maybe a couple EEs by the time I get home. The best thing is that Daisy Mama is going broody again. She is still laying, but is fluffed and clucking her head off. She was a great mother last year to the chicks she adopted, but was only broody for 3 days before I had to give her chicks. She should be really happy to adapt the new chicks.

I had a problem today with a bantam cochin hen. When I sat June out of her crate this morning I felt a small sore on her back. I figured I would treat it later today. When I finally got around to her this afternoon I discovered that the small sore was the last part to heal of a rather large wound. I found a scab under the feathers that came right off. Under that it is all healed, but you could tell that she had a healed gash across her back about 2.5" long and fairly deep. Don't know how long ago it happened. The wound and scabs had been hidden under all those feathers. She is a potentially Show Quality Mottled Cochin and that means ALOT of feathers. I feel awful that I did not notice that she had been hurt. She is so timid it has taken 4 months to get her accepted by the flocks. The small remaining sore(smaller then a dime) was infected which is why it had not healed yet. I opened it up and removed the infection and applied some 3-1 to keep it clean and help finish the healing. June just watched and kept pecking my hand to get her treat. She knows I had to have some hidden somewhere.

Okay I need a little help with buying an incubator. I have done some reading, still dont understand everything, but I am pretty sure I need a circulated air one with a turner. I need something that I do not have to do a lot with since I do not know excatly how to do it. Really it is not for me, but my soon to be six year old. He has asked for one for his birthday at the end of May. I think this is sooo much better than another toy that will get lost in the closest and will be a great education tool. I am 41 and never have experienced the birth of anything, except for my son...lol. So my question is where and which one is the best to get for what I am looking for... mainly one that is self efficient since I and my son would be a novice.

Oh I forgot to mention I did look at 2 of my local feed stores and one has the still air and the other has both still and circulated and they both self the turner. Price wise the circulated with egg turner will be about $153.00

If you can afford one, buy a GQF Hovabator, which is pre-set, digital and easy to use. Also buy a turner, it will save you a lot of time........ Any questions feel free to pm me.....

He's going to remain Spice? How funny!

I think we both did good, since we both ended up happy. When you get that tank set up for your ducks, you need to post pictures! And yes, we do need to get together again. I so enjoyed meeting all three of you! Maybe we should plan a cookout some time in the summer for all the area BYCers, or those willing to drive for it.

Now I'm up to 10 chicks out and five eggs pipped. I need to candle them and see how many infertile eggs I had.
