Happy day!

After the freezer adventure, I started looking at converting the freezer into an incubator. I've decided that the chest freezer is too big, but I like the idea of building my own, so I may be working on that this summer. Fun project!

Good Morning Everyone!!

It didn't work...I'm still here and waiting!! DH has his fingers crossed for Sunday (he thinks an April Fool's baby would be cool.) My fingers are crossed for whenever my mother is able to get down here and watch the other little one. LOL Just hoping to have enough food prepared that she will NOT have to cook!!

LOL...SHHHH, I didn't say that!!

Scott - We live out in the boonies, so no one would even notice the sounds of gunshot, as we frequently hear "neighbors" having target practice (one works for or runs a gun shop, according to his vehicle), we have hunters all around as well as wild boar/coyote that we're allowed to "dispose of." Thus I am not opposed to having a gun...I'd just like to learn how to use it first!!

Don't want to shoot my foot when I was suppose to be shooting a predator!! Glad I could offer some happy news for you last night as well!!

I am hoping and praying all turns out well for you. I am not a dog person myself, but I do understand how they can become such an integral part of the family and how hard it is to make any decision on whether or not an animal stays or goes. Best of luck to you and we're all hoping for the best!

We are on day 3 or 4 of our broody sitting on her eggs!!
wee.gif
I think it's safe enough to say at least for now that she is intending to hatch these...for now!! I do get "the evil eye" every time I go into the coop to check on her. I have NOT stuck my hand underneath to to check if she has more eggs than what I marked or not...and yesterday she did not come off the eggs when I brought their food in. I hope she is eating/drinking well enough...she's one of my favorites (SHHH, don't tell the other girls, they might get jealous). Still looking to get rid of 1 rooster and add a few more hens (when they're ready) because I can't seem to keep the chicken saddles ON these girls and their backs are all torn up by the boys fighting over who is going to be the last one to "visit" each girl!! I am on my 4th set of chicken saddles (gave up the idea of using snaps for easy access) and yet they still manage to get them off!!
he.gif
It's a conspiracy I tell you!!

Once we are done planting our garden, DH's next project (completely decided by him) is to dig a "small" 20-40 gallon Koi pond for us to have DUCKS complete with a water feature (as an added bonus to me) and a working filter/pump.
love.gif
Have I ever said how great of a guy he is?? I think he secretly wants to design and build a filtering pump system so we can keep the water clean without expending too much water/electricity...he's thinking solar powered pump/filter!! I just nod my head and say the ducks would be just as happy with a kiddie pool and how much I appreciate all that he does!!
big_smile.png
Who am I to argue with a mini pond, right?? LOL Again, I think it's a secret way for him to get out of infant diaper duty!!
Well, I am off to make bread for the next few weeks...have a great day everyone!!

GOOD MORNING !!
NH... Baby Mac just may be an April fools baby ! She should have been here yesterday !

Shorten the elastic straps on the saddles. That should keep them on and ....NO, it will not hurt them. Think Bra...they need to be snug. Mine stay on for months !!!
Duck pond/ Koi pond. MAKE SURE IT HAS A DRAIN !!! The first thing a ducks does when it hits water is poop.

Give the dog some time to get used the chickens outside. New territory.

Hollow... do you KNOW how much TROUBLE you could get into with a freezer bator ????

Thanks for the support on our dog, she means the world to me. I've decided to try my best to re-establish myself as alpha. Until we reach an agreement she will remain in her kennel while my girls are around. I did a ton of research last night and do believe she has become more"comfortable" b/c I have taken to let her do her own thing. As of today she will be getting a rude awakening which will hopefully get us back on track.

The chicken boys did well for their first night in the coop! My test roo's are getting to live in the coop to see if it's preditor proof. I would much rather loss a roo than my hen's.

I'm glad you will try to work with her, when I got really sick a couple years ago my husky was allowed to get away with a lot, and she became a witch. After a couple weeks of retraining and discipline she got the message. I'm praying your girl gets the message too! :fl good luck.

If its big enough, one side for incubation, the other for hatching! That would be way awesome! I would really be in some serious trouble with something like that...right now I'm needing another brooder/grow out pen and I only have a little hovabator. :D

Kmac, good luck with your dog. It's worth it to give her a chance. I think this place is great, for a lot of reasons, but it warms my heart to know that you got advice here to help you with your dog and now you are inspired to try to work with her. :)

Great news to hear you found all your chickens,

Scott

scottcaddy, I was just having some fun with my drake, he was raised by me in the house so he thinks hes a dog and will let me do just about anything with him including dressing him up, so I put the dogs jacket on him and said when i posted it that he was going to hit the slopes for a day of skiing. I know I really need help lol
