I CAVED!!!!!!!!
I knew I would. I should have stayed away, but boy how I just wanted to have a few small peeps. In three weeks we are getting 26 in the mail, but Ijust could not stand it anymore. I knew my local feed store was going to have Americauna. I call them EE's because I am sure they are just that, but I wanted to have 2 babies to take care of and make sure we will be able to handle to bunch coming in a few weeks. So my 6 year old and myself picked out two. He picked out a very dark one, very small (maybe the smallest of the bunch). He specified he wanted a dark one with a big muff. I got a bright yellowish one that already has some grey/blackish wing feathers coming in and bigger.

We had to go home and get the brooder set up and then to a different feed store to get the chick start medicated since these are not vaccinated and I did not want a big bag, since my other group will need the non medicated. As soon as we got home dipped their peaks in the water and showed them the ecoglow, since then they are under there not making a peep and I guess sleeping. I wiil post some pictures when they are up and moving.

Now hopefully DH will still let us buy something at the auction if we see anything.

. I will have to tell that to my DH. If I dont stop he will have to build a bigger coop. Then he wont be happy. Maybe with these two he will really be getting into it like me. After all he is the one that started this idea years ago.

If I were you I would go back and get 1 or 2 more. If something should happen to one the other will be very lonely. They get really loud when alone. Hope for the best, but plan for the 'just in case' moments. Besides, who ever heard of just 2 chicks in chicken math.

Have you already put in corn? I'm trying it for the first time this year, but still have to get the space ready!! Hopefully I can do that AND plant this weekend. I've taken a chance on planting some warm stuff way early, but it has already come up..yellow and zucchini squash, cucumbers.. Snap peas are doing well so far..Lettuce, cabbage and broccoli are perfect, but I planted them last fall!

I planted strawberry roots and they haven't done a thing!

I have already put in corn. I do it in rotation. I put in one row, 3 deep 2 weeks ago. After it sprouted I put in a second row, 3 deep. When that sprouts in about 2 weeks, I'll put in a third row... so on and so forth so I'm getting corn fresh all summer. I did risk it planting early by about 4 weeks, so I think its WELL worth it with this weather to plant now.

Just got back from talking to the realtor who's holding the auction on that land.

Only one other guy showed up for the showing. Its being sold in tracts, 4 total. I want the 4th tract that isn't attached to the other 3. He said he's had some calls, but no one has shown up to see the land. Good sign? Maybe!

The tracts will be sold from whatever starting bid the buyers set. No minimum on these tracts was set by the court. So they could go for $1 or $500k. If I bid $1000 and want all 4 tracts and I win the first bid I get to chose which tracts I want for that amount. I could buy all 4 tracts for $4000 at that point and the auction ends.

From the look of things, the likely amount on this land auction could be around $7500 per acre if there are a few bidders to show up. That would be an awesome price!

However, this bank/court auctions could go for anything... he says there is no rhyme or reason to these at all and they've been doing these auctions for 25 yrs!

I think I'm going to take a stab at it... going to talk to my husband and his uncle and get some ideas and where we can afford to go with this as I'm the kind of person who REFUSES to budge on a budget! hahaha
