I must brag!

This was "finals week"!. Not for me. For one of my dogs. Jake earned his Canine Good Citizen on Tuesday night. Last night he earned his TDI...Therapy Dog International. Yay Jake!

TDI testing is pretty tough. No treats allowed, and no leash corrections. Voice control only. Dog must sit, down, stay, come, loose leash walk through a pattern that includes turns and a sudden loud distraction (they dropped a clipboard). He has to allow a stranger to approach and greet me. Then another stranger to approach and greet him. Then a third stranger to approach and handle him, petting, picking up feet, checking ears, and grooming. Then he must be able to leave me, go with a stranger and be out of my sight for three minutes. He must be able to move within a crowd of people, some of whom are in wheelchairs or using walkers or canes, without meeting them, then go meet one when directed. He must be able to have his handler greet someone who also has a dog, without the dogs greeting each other or the other human. And he must walk past food on the floor and ignore it. No grazing allowed. And he must be able to tolerate kids. (Jake adores kids)

I'm very proud of my Jake. Those of you have been at my place, Jake is the medium sized darkest one. The one in my avatar on lamb watch, actually!

Yea Jake

New to raising chickens, and not even sure if this will make it to the correct thread, but I am in Wilson, NC. We have 6 baby chicks that are just a few days old, and was wondering if they can be put in the coop with a heat lamp and bedding yet? The coop is 4 x 4, and I would section off a smaller part for the chicks for now. Looks like for the next couple weeks, the lows will stay in the upper 50's and 60's. Any thoughts?

Thanks!!

My chicks are always started from Day 1 in a coop with heat lamp, bedding, food and water. And I've done it when I had to shovel snow away from the door to get in. As long as the heat lamp is working well (in cold temps, I usually run two, just in case.) and there are no drafts, they should be fine. Drafts are the big killer.

For the rest of you...Jake says Thanks to all!

And hey....my dogs are spoiled, too! You could tell if you came by in the mornings and saw me trying to retrieve my covers from three mastiffs and a hubby who are all crowded into our queen sized bed!
