Good afternoon everyone!!
I am sad to report that I think momma broody is sitting on 4 duds as 21 days from when I thought she was suppose to hatch was this past Monday. She is still sitting on them though and gets off occasionally to take care of her one little one. Will it be okay all by itself with it's momma or should I pick up a few more chicks to hide under momma??

Okay, I am hiding in my room with DD2 and my laptop to get away from everyone. My MIL decided to get up at 4am and proceeded to do my dishes, make a cake (in which has ingredients DD is allergic to) and rummage through my fridge to make chicken stock - which I don't mind, only I had a few carcasses saved in the freezer so I could in fact make a big batch. Still it was thoughtful...minus the getting up at 4am and making such a ruckus that she woke up DD2 and because she is LOUD, DD1 woke up extra early.

Then my FIL decides to give DD1 a ride on the tractor WHILE he is mowing the lawn. DH sees nothing wrong with it, and all I can think about is the "what ifs". If she was older, I'd have no problem, but 20mo riding on a big tractor with huge spinning blades...too scary for this mama!!

Is it too early to start counting down the minutes until their plane takes off?? LOL

Thank you for letting me vent!! You all are the best!!

Rookie- I am so sorry to hear about your little guy. Know you did all you could for him, and he had such a great life while he lived.

I'm getting my first ones form Twin Creeks Farm in Carver Creek, NC. Not sure if that is close to you or not but you can google Twin Creeks Farm, NC and can read about them. I've been very impressed talking with Wesley on the phone though!

good to see you still in 1 piece, mama and chick will be fine. they will be fine with the rest if you want to put her back in with the flock too. Just my 2 cents.

The chick will be fine. No need to get more.

Enjoy the in laws.

Okay, since I've quit raising French Angora rabbits, I have an array of hanging rabbit cages, including quite a few that are 30 inches deep, 24 inches high, and 60 inches long. I'm planning to raise out a few quail in some of them next year, but that makes me look at the others. Is a five foot long cage big enough for a pair or even trio of Seramas or other tiny Bantams? I love looking at them, but don't want them free-ranging with my other birds, and don't think they would stay in a fence very well! If I can keep them comfortably, I may. If it's not a comfortable situation for them though, I won't.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I said I wasn't going to get bantams. So sue me.

LOL

Thanks everyone for the advice!! DH wants to give the eggs one more day since momma is still sitting on them before we take them away from her. Then...then I can reintroduce her to the flock and that means...my isolation pen will be EMPTY...you know in case I just HAVE to HAVE MORE...which of course I do!!
