Im looking for a laying Wyandotte Hen. Any type is fine, but we like the blue laced and silver laced. If anyone has one or two that they are selling, PM me!!! :)

I also wanted to share that I finally got my mealworm farm running! It is so easy! The kids are loving helping and the hens are loving the rewards!

Here is a pic of my setup!

Impressive....good job! Let us know how you did it!

It was SOOO simple! I thought it would include more work but it doesnt! I bought two bins one deeper than the other. I then cut out the bottom of the smaller with a box cutter, glued window screen on and let cool. I bought the wheat bran and took chicken pellets and let them all meet the blender. The mash has to be non medicated chicken feed though. Half and half. Put the beetles in the top with some veggies (my fave so far is the celery and they like it too) and also give them some hiding places. Place worms in the bottom part, also with some veggies. Some ppl place newspaper in there for them to hide in as well. Place the smaller into the larger and put on the lid (dont forget some air holes, VIOLA! Done! I spent a total of about 50 bucks. That is more than most spend from what I hear. I bought worms, beetles, boxes, hot glue refils, wheat, and window screen. :) Can you tell I am having a lot of fun with them?

Sounds easier than I would have thought. But when you say "put the beetles......" I'm sitting here thinking, "what beetles?" Is there a website you used?

No, I actually am a part of some poultry groups on FB, i just posted that I wanted some beetles. It shaves about 6 weeks off the whole process of getting started if you get some beetles, you just have to find someone near you who would be willing to sell you some. It really is VERY easy. Once a week you put in new veggies or if they start to dry out or if they start to form mold, and just pick out the pupa when they form and set them aside and wait, the pupa turns into beetles. I have the screen on the bottom of my beetle box so that the really tiny baby mealworms will fall through the screen and into my mealworm box. That way the beetles dont eat them :) Less work too. Its so easy and I just keep messing with them. Also, they dont smell, which is a HUGE plus.

I am interested in the class for sure ! Also no fox yet, traps were empty this am. Doesn't surprise me...they already ate 12 chickens...they are stuffed ! They did come back and set leg traps. Not sure if I like that....but, she has to go.

Have you tried lighting off some fire crackers around the
den area a couple times a day????
May help to move her and kits away.
What if it was a family of racoons that did it?
Hope you can scare off whatever it is.

No I am sure it is the fox... I see her often and her 3 pups. Just Fri. ...we were all outside, kids were playing and she was running along the barnyard fence. That is when I made a phone call to a neighbor that tracks & hunts. DD sees her & pups playing out back behind the chicken houses often. And the hole was full of tracks...canine. AND found the meaties parts (half bodies etc.) all around the den.
