Morning.....

I am just disgusted with muddy runs.

I have pulled some birds and put them in small round pens just to get them out of the muck.

Between the mud and the smell...I can't take it !

My boys volunteered to grab shovels and wheelbarrow and haul some dirt for me.

That should help, if it ever stops raining long enough for the dirt to dry.

Feel better CSB...

Hmm...are you trying to tell us something??

On a serious note, if you have some fresh ginger, grate that and make tea out of it...it works WONDERS for upset stomaches!! Peppermint works well too, but not as good as ginger!! Hope you feel better soon!!

I am hoping my 2 broody hens don't mind the move and are well adjusted today. I'm also hoping they're okay and still sitting!! Should be having some chicks hatch sooner rather than later!!

Good morning all! Lovely to see CSBs good mornings again! (Don't get sick!

)

Someone came out to get eggs for a broody hen two days ago, bought a poult, then came back yesterday and got another poult. I forgot I had eggs on lockdown with all that's going on around here, until I heard noises coming from the 'bator last night.

Three out, one pipped, six eggs sitting there. Today is the actual hatch date, so we'll see.

Oh, and I figured out what made all the scratching noises my niece heard the other night. Not something trying to get into the henhouse. Big Bob the turkey on the roof walking around on the metal with his claws!

I was wondering why there was no sign around the henhouse the next day! On the other hand, something got my last Lav Orp roo yesterday...in the run. He wasn't out in the pasture. Just a few feathers to show that he ever existed; no carcass. It's always the lighter colored birds that are taken. I'm rethinking lavenders......

New batch of fly parasitoid wasps in the mail to put out. I hope they drop the fly population somewhat. It's bad this year.

edited because the spelling faerie didn't show up for work.

OOOO you just JINXed yourself !!!

Hollow....tell me more about these wasp for fly control !!!!!

Is it the Spalding Fly Predators that Coop Scoop told me about ????
Beth, I order from Arbico Organics. They sell a mix of a couple different ones and just call them "fly eliminators". I ordered early in the season, to have them sent monthly for seven months, and double the amount in July and August. They send pupae. As soon as they start hatching, you put them outside. The wasps lay their eggs on flies, and the wasp larvae eat the fly and kill it as they grow. These wasps are not much bigger than fruit flies, if any, so they are not something dangerous to humans. They work, but the flies will be so bad this summer I'm wishing I had doubled my order!

edited to add... if you do a search, you'll find several sources for them. There are different species available. I got these simply because they were a mix and I figured that would give me better odds.

Jeffers catalog also has them.

I have heard good things about them, but never tried them because I assumed they would just get eaten up by my chickens and guineas

Am I right?
