Just a quick hi to everyone, please have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I am off to the race, Allison is chicken boss today.......
Gavin I'm going to the race too! Doubt DH and I would see you there with all the other people around. It's my first race so I am a bit excited!

With all the work late into the night getting the younglings moved...I forgot to shut the original henhouse door.

Another hen taken last night. One of my black splits. Found her this morning.

She was taken over the 2 x 4 fencing around the chicken moat, across the barn pasture and over/through the field fence into the back pasture, and nearly to the back fence. Both of those pastures are small, and this is across the shorter way so we're talking less than 100 yards, but over two fences. And she was not dragged, or there would have been a better feather trail. Something carried a full grown Orpington hen.

We just found a few clumps, and hubby found the carcass just doing a walk-about. Head/shoulders eaten, but that's it.

I'd say "good morning", but it really isn't.

I'm so sorry.

We're not cancelled, I've been so busy cleaning and going to shopping to get everything I got all engulfed in that last night and this morning!

It's on, and I hope more people can come then I expect. Looks like a lot of thing came up today for people.

I still have plenty of room, and again, I bought everything for it... so no one has to bring ANYTHING, just their booties and willingness to learn. :D

Today... 2:30pm.... Learn the science and art of making and canning jams/jellies. Looks like we will have time to cover pickling as well. I have lots of drinks and snacks for a fun filled day.

LOTS of open seats still.

I will be there.........

I hope everyone had a great time at either VFem's Jam Class or the WCA!! We had a rather interesting evening last night!!

A special shout out to Beth (and a special THANK YOU) for her advice!! Our broody Maran managed to get herself out of the broody coop, and could not get herself back in. DH found her in the woods sitting on an empty "nest" out there. She ran from him and then ran into the main coop. Once in there, she decided to "fly" up to the rafters and perch there clucking up a storm and just being agitated. I kept running in and out trying to help while not leaving the two girls unattended (especially since DD#1 has decided that whenever momma turns her back, it's a perfect time to find something to color on that she's not suppose to...so far the hardwood floor, my WHITE ottoman, the brand new scratching post we built, her clothes, etc...). DH was a brave soul - he took his shirt off and covered her head so she would calm down...we then put her back into the broody coop and she was VERY happy to be back on her nest. I had panicked because I hadn't seen her off her nest until yesterday and when I checked her eggs, they were cold. Not sure if the eggs will hatch or not, but we should be seeing something happen here in the coming days, as day 21 will be this Friday!!

Okay...henhouse cleaned out. Chicks moved to smaller side, and nestboxes cardboarded up so they can't learn to sleep in them. New perches in for adults, and the nestboxes filled with fresh hay. Fan installed, on a timer, to keep it cooler during the hot part of the day. The big ones are checking out the new space and all happy. The little ones are just confused.

I let Meanie and Sweetie out this morning, and they stayed out a couple hours, then went back in their cage. So I let the lemon-blue pair out (Don't have names for them yet.). After a couple hours, he went back in, but it was a bit high for her, so I gave her a boost. Now the quad of BBRs is out and having a good time. I expect they won't know where to go, so after dusk I'll collect them and put them back. Two of them have laid eggs already!

With the new lav roo and girls in quarentine...and therefore a new voice in the air....my other roos are going nuts. It's like the cue for the younger, but bigger, blue roo to challenge the older but smaller buff roo. I've separated them three times today, dropping one or the other over the fence into the yard or pasture, but they keep coming back at it. I thought about penning one up, but I'm going to let them have at it. They'll be separated soon, permanently. Each will get his own space and his own girls, as will the one who set this off.

Daisy has 5 SLW(1 hidden), 2 Blue Copper Marans(1 hidden), 2 Black Copper Marans, and a mystery(Brown chick at Daisy's rear) that hatched from a BCM egg.

well I spent the day making dad happy by cleaning half of the pens for his bday, made the neighbor happy with a FULL truck of bird droppings for his place, and made Tank happy by fixing the pen and putting him back in

now I'm tried but happy that it got done before the rain started
