Quote: Anyone who likes to eat is a pleasure to have at my house! I love to cook. I love to feed people. And my inlaws are totally unsatisfying to cook for. They only want scrambled eggs. No omelets, no quiche, no baked apple souffle, no French toast even. Just scrambled. How bland, when there are soooo many things to do with eggs! And breakfast is my favorite thing to cook! Even more than baking! Hubby is getting a spinach, ham, and mushroom quiche for supper, just to make up for them!

Lav Ams? Lovely! Since I think I want three total, if you'd like to place your roo and one of the cockerels when you can sex them, I'd take them with the caveat that you can get the roo back if something happens to yours. If you want to do it that way. Your call. Remember, I free-range, so there's a hawk risk. They get shut up at night, and hubby has the new henhouse fox-proofed, but still, there is risk. But definitely want one of the cockerels, and two if you don't want to part with the roo. I should find a cockerel of a different color for the third, though....got one of those?????

Only other colors I have are black split to Lav. chicks. I think doublea is hatching BBS.

OK, guys, I have a "duck" question. I have looked at BYC's duck forumn but could not find an answer. And, I know how smart all of you are, so I know someone will have an answer!!

We have ducklings, 7 are about 2 to 3 months old, and 4 that are about 5 months. At present, they are in a large chain link dog kennel and have a kiddie pool. We have a large pond in our front yard that we want to move them to. What do we need to do in order to transition them out to the big pond? There are large clumps of Zebra grass along the edges of the pond along with other grasses and such. I am thinking that may suffice as shelter. Do we need to put a fence around an area to keep them in until they know this is where they now live? Eventually, I want them to be able to wander around wherever they want. But am afraid to just let them loose out there.

Thanks in advance for what I know will be the right answer to our concern for our newest additions!

HAHAHAHAHA UNCW isn't as bad as ECU by any means......but I can assure it's a good time with the right people.

IN other news, I decided to sell my coops rather than move them so I get to build a whole new set-up! And we're gonna try to stay around 10 hens for a while so we don't have to deal with the neighbors to start with.
STILL HAVE 3 chickens that need new homes! 1 light brahma roo(6 months old), 1 red mixed hen (light brahma x RIR), and one easter egger. PM me if interested they're all around the same age and would be good together.
All the packing is done and now we play hurry up and wait. Should be moved this weekend with the hopes I get the new chicken digs put together and get them all moved at night for a less stressful procedure. HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE

Has anyone found a written source of information on NPIP for NC? I would like to get the NPIP testing, but not without having written guidelines first. When I emailed the contact person for the state, he said he would explain it on the phone, but not in writing. That's a huge red flag for me. So, repeat question...anyone know where there is written information on this program? I like things in writing, no "he-said-she-said" scenarios. Thanks for any information you can give me.

I agree!! I think our girls are going to be told that they are allergic to boys and partying until they're at least 30!!

From a 2005 UNCW grad...ECU is way worse! There is nothing to do there BUT party! It's all about who you surround yourself with. You can still go to a fun school (UNCW is ranked in the top 10 public universities in the state) and get good grades...if I did it then anyone can! The Cameron School of Business and the nursing school are both top notch along with the film school and marine biology programs.

So, back to chickens....has anyone ever had an experience with a very SLOW developing chick?? I have a BLRW chick who's 4 siblings are probably 2/3 larger and have all their feathers. She's still got lots of baby fuzz and is growing VERY slow. It's almost comical to put them all next to each other, you would NEVER know they were hatched at the same time! Anything I should be doing special for her? She is living in my bathroom right now because she was getting beat up. She was trying to stick up for herself but was just too small to compete. She's the sweetest little thing though! I'm assuming she's a girl...I really am not good at sexing chicks yet.
