North Carolina

Looks like lice eggs. Sevin dust, and permethrin drops (for horses) or permethrin concentrate (bought in a bottle and mixed to strength) use as a local spray...retreat in 7-10 days to get the bugs that hatch. best to bathe either before first treatment or at 2nd treatment and by hand try to remove as much of the stuff off the feathers as possible or pluck the worst affected feathers out as they are stuck like glue until the feather molts out even after the eggs hatch, the castings are still there.

Thanks! I have Sevin and can get Permethrin tomorrow. Should I go ahead and treat everyone just in case I missed the bugs? It's a good thing LBB and Momo like baths. They may all get one just to be sure. Dawn is good right?
Thanks, Lenore

Good morning folks

While our girls were young and full of
energy, I would say they had that energy
because of an invisible cord still conected
to me and that was why I had less energy.
Our girls are grown and have kids of their
own and I still don't have energy........I
wonder if it will return or if the grandkids
are getting it all now.....I still love their visits though

I hope you all have an energetic day

CSB - I don't know if this is true or not, but my mother use to say the same thing but added on that she has even LESS energy because the mama's (us girls...LOL) have cords to their kids, but the cords are still attached to her; therefore, she is supplying energy to EVERYONE!!

I guess that's why she never has any extra when I need it!! LOL. Hope you have a great day though!!

It was so great to see a fresh, wet chick last night. DD was so enamored by the process, I think she could have stood there (like me) for hours!! We watched the chick drink water for the first time and worry about whether or not it would drown...watched it try to "launch" itself over to it's mama - all the while there was this fuzzy head peaking out from under mama's wing!! DH was even just in awe of the whole process and LOVED it!! I am anxious to see how many (if any) more are out there today!! I think this is one of the best parts of owning chickens (aside from the moment you get your first egg!!)

Have a great day everyone!!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Baby animals are awesomeness, aren't they? Just totally amazing, be it chick, or lamb or human. The process of creating new life is fascinating.

I always said that the kids sucked the energy out of the room/house, so there was none left for me.

Today I must figure out a way to make Jake a raincoat that fits over his harness and packs. I should have done it already, but when I had to leave him home Monday and use my crutches instead, it really hit home. I can't let him sit in a wet harness all day as it will chafe him. I know some of you sew, and although I'll be using adhesives intead of poking holes in my plastic, I'm open to any suggestions on converting an adult sized poncho into a raincoat for an equipped mastiff!

Have a great day everyone!

What if you made something that looked like batwings that went over him and hooked on his harness but didn't go around him completely? I can try to draw something up but i wouldn't have a clue on how to actually make it

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I've come to the conclusion that I need to make seperate pens for everyone and get my shed space back instead of it being the big coop. The new roo (rufio) is enjoying his new space and is doing me proud and not trying to mess with my lf hens....which if anyone is interested I have 2 hens, laying everyday except sunday, that need new homes. one is a cinnamon queen and the other is a black copper maran. They are both gorgeous but I have no room for them now

Quote: I just tried a pncho on him, without his equipment, and trimmed off the front so he can walk. Looking at the rest of it, I think I'll need a way to both cover the handle to the harness and make it useable. Not sure how, although I'm considering a large fold it can tuck into. I'll use velcro dots to secure it, I think. I did buy a couple cheap ponchos to practice with, and will pick up a couple more while I'm out getting velcro today. I hadn't thought of making it actually attach to the harness, but that's a great idea; it'll help keep the plastic from slipping sideways! Thanks! There's already velcro on the harness, so a couple strategically placed dots on the underside will do it nicely!

I was thinking something that kind of drapped over him that you wouldn't have to dress on him with maybe a clip under his chest area....I should just draw something and show you, I'm not worth a darn at explaining stuff

If you don't want them, PM me a pic and price. I could add them to my laying hen house for added color! I don't like having just one breed, but I love healthy Happy birds!
I try to keep a variety of ages and breeds.

Got to run the kids to Herman Park. It is Chris' last day of the season out there. He is taking some RI hens. I still have a few extras of them. I wanted to replace some of them this year with Partridge P Rocks. Got some young at the WAC and need to let them grow out a bit to decide how many to keep.
