Good Morning everyone!! I hope you all have a fantastic Labor Day!! My day has started off better than anything. Found out AFTER getting to sleep most of the night that DH doesn't have to work today....SO a double blessing!! DD2 slept from 9pm until 4am...the LONGEST stretch to date!!

Is it selfish of me that I hope this trend continues so I can play catch up on all those hours of interrupted sleep in the past?? LOL

Congratulations Zak for the POW, Miss Lydia for the honor of Moderator (WELCOME BACK TOO!! We missed you)!!
Welcome to the new folks!!
Rookie: Glad to hear your baby girl is doing better....praying for the other one that is still struggling!!

Labor Day plans: making Beth a bunch of cookies (DH ate the last batch...guess they were good), making bread & rolls while DH moves the smaller coop/pen around to be closer to the pond for the ducks/guineas - and away from the poison ivy!! This clears the area for us to add on to the coop (once we get a truck) and start working on clearing out some of the woods!! Did I mention I get to bake all day while DH does all the physical work? How did I get so lucky?!? Guess I should make him a batch of cookies or something, right?!?

I have heard a lot about the WCA. Can you tell me more about it and maybe shoot me the web link? It sounds like a farmers market kind of a thing...but I'm not sure.

Not a farmers market. It is Wicked Chicken Auction. It is a auction for chickens...other feathered critters and small animals.
Wilson Mills Rd, Clayton (Wilson Mills) at Calamity Janes Store. There is a FB page for it.

So here's a lesson I learned: I am the keeper of the brain at my house.

You have no idea what a really bad thing this is! LOL This weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) was the weekend for the play I was in (Midsummer Night's Dream - which went GREAT). As such, I was really really busy and distracted this weekend. A big thunderstorm came rolling in at the end of the play, so we hurried home to put the chickens up for the night.

What do I find when I open the coop?

18 EGGS!!!! From seven chickens, one of which I suspect isn't actually laying (our crossbeaked girl).

Turns out that since I hadn't said anything over the weekend, no one (which includes my husband, my 19 year old, and my 17 year old), thought to go pull eggs out of the laying boxes!

They went out and fed and watered them. Took them treats - watermelon and veggies and such. Just didn't think to check the laying boxes for eggs.

Oddly, we checked all the eggs when we brought them in and they were fine. I was expecting to find at least a few that had gone bad, but none had.

However, lesson learned. I have to tell them to check. Every. Single. Day. *sigh*

Good morning folks

Hubby's trip for next week got canceled, so he will be here for the inspection. That means the turkeys don't have to be locked up so long, which they will appreciate. Eight days to go until we know!

Have the best possible day today!

Beth...would you believe my chickens are NOT laying and this will be the first time in over a YEAR that I will have to buy eggs?? <sigh> Stupid molting....why can't they molt in stages so only ONE is out of commission at a time....if it's not molting, it's broodiness. I am getting ONE green egg a day (Yay for my Mutt Maran) and an occasional light brown one here and there. Don't these girls know I am trying to do some massive baking?? I guess this means I just need MORE HENS, right?!?

Oh, and just to tease you...I will be making double chocolate chocolate chip & perhaps even some more of the chocolate peppermint (aka Thin Mint ripoffs) ones, IF I can convince DH to keep his hands off (the cookies that is)!!

Well, today is going to be a good day so long as it doesn't rain!! DoubleA and I are heading out to the outlet mall to spend LOTS of money window shopping at Le Cruset...I suspect there will be a HUGE drool puddle once we are done there!! Then it's home to do some required nap times and SEWING!!

Funny chicken bit: Our latest mama is one PROTECTIVE mama!! She is by far the most aggressive in protecting her chicks - so much so that she has scared (possibly scarred) our DD1!! DH and DD1 were outside moving the broody coop around as it will so be the quarantine coop and/or duck coop when DD walked too close to one of the chicks (for once she was more concerned with Daddy then the chicks) and the momma charged at her!! She refused to stay outside after that!! Poor thing!! The chickens are just so mean to her (in her mind)...I mean first one of the youngsters pecks her toes (have you seen chubby toddler toes...I can see how they mistook them for juicy treats) and now she gets accosted by a mama for "helping" daddy. LOL, who knew it was so dangerous out there!! The funniest part, our Rooster who we were questionable about...he's so sweet to her. Whenever she is out, he largely keeps the chickens away from her, but then again, I don't blame him from steering clear of that mama...
