nothing but LOVE Beth!!)

I guess we are all busy with school back in.

My son thought he would pull a fast one on me by telling me he did his homework, so I would let him watch TV. This morning I was going to sign some papers that he brought home to sign and found his work NOT done! He will not do that again.

He sat at the table until it was finished, and then had to wait while I walked his little brother to class (K). After being late at his school, and thoroughly embarrassed, I do not think he will pull that again. It may be a blessing in disguise that he did this so early in the year; get it over with.

After seeing the trouble that he got in to, I bet his little brother won't want to make the same mistake either.

As for bird business.... The first Sebright that had a neck injury has been doing well.

I am still NOT able to share pics here??????

I did put some on FB, so it is not my computer...?????

Diva's Baby did not make it, and other than the leg injury... I am still not sure why she got so sick, so fast.

The younger Sebright (that came home with bugs) and caught her legs in the wire... I am not sure at all about. She sleeps strange, and I know that leg injuries can go either way. Some birds are very resilient and make a full recovery, and others give in. She is very pretty so I hope for my son she does keep going.

New chicken rancher reporting in from Raleigh!

Coop is still under construction:

We got 5 chicks about 12 days ago. They are now 22 days old and growing FAST! Time to finish that coop!

We've got two Ameraucanas ("Flash" and "Penny"), two blue laced Wyandottes ("Lacy" and "Minnie"), and one Buff Orpington ("Little Miss Sunshine").

When I first got the idea to get chickens years ago, it was a novel and kind of revolutionary idea. Now it's almost a cliche in our neighborhood, and many early adopters have given it up. I knew I wanted to be in for the long haul, so I have taken years to do my research (thanks to all of you! I've been reading BYC like crazy!), waited through various setbacks, and finally plunged in and promised my kids we'd have chickens before the year was out. I'm just as thrilled by this as my kids.

What great entertainment these little birds have provided. We've been catching crickets in a trap overnight some nights and letting them loose into the chicks' box en masse in the morning. What a scene! Even more entertaining when we throw in a handful of moths too! The prize this morning was a huge katydid. It took them 10 minutes to finish that thing off!
