Good Morning, Everyone!

You guys are so awesome it hurts.

My daughter has a quote she uses for a sig line that works very well for my current poultry issues.

"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."

Luka, you might want to borrow that one, too! Glad your mom is okay with it. You will get used to the idea, and realize that you don't have to change as much as you think in your life. You really don't. But the worry you are showing tells me that you are going to be a great dad. You care.

Okay, the inspector came 30 minutes early, and we are done.

The original guy told me they would be doing a blood test. I'm glad we had a different guy. The new one said he was doing a tracheal swab instead. The swab only shows if the birds are sick. The blood test would show antibodies, so birds who had resistance but no illness would show positive. CSB and RF and I were discussing this just the other day, although at that time I wasn't aware they had more than one testing method. I'm glad they did.

He called back to the office to see how many they wanted done, and out of the 6 turkeys and 25 chickens we have left, (out of over 100 birds we had at the beginning of all this) they opted to test 3 turkeys and 12 chickens. Birds were grabbed off perches at random by hubby and me and testing went quickly that way.

Downside to the swab is that we'll have to wait a few days for results. But they'll call and let us know. If all is clear, we'll re-test again in one month. If that is clear, quarantine will be lifted. If either test is not clear, then we'll have to decide if we slaughter all birds and start over, or try treating and going back through the testing process. We'll make each decision as we get to it, I think.

I did end up with an adult turkey hen flying up and slamming into my face. Ouch. I have a claw scratch down the side of my nose where my glasses ride, so I'll have a week of irritation from that. Hubby has a long turkey scratch done one arm. Except for Bob, the turkeys aren't used to being handled.
