Good Morning, Happy People!

Yesterday was long, long, long! But, it was the first time in years that we made it home for Thanksgiving, and it was nice to have most of us together.

On the other hand, I had to pull over and take a power nap on the way home. I actually had nodded off and crossed the center line.

(Low traffic at that point, thank goodness!) So I called a friend who talked to me for fifteen minutes until I reached the welcome center. I got an hour's worth of sleep and then drove the rest of the way.

However, Daddy had chickens for me.

He had ordered chicks a while back (NPIP source, of course) and he's kept them separated from his others, just so he could share with me when we got through that blasted quarantine!.

After a discussion with hubby, I brought some back. So I have a dozen Buff Orpington pullets and a roo ...still in crates in my car! (sunrise is coming soon!) He got them end of August, a couple weeks after we went on quarantine, so they're rght at three months old. That puts me three months closer to proper eggs!

I'm thrilled that Daddy thought so far ahead just for me. I love my Daddy!

Everybody have an awesome day!

Good Morning everyone. I do hope that those of you that are braving the black Friday sales are careful out there...things can be a mad house!!

We had a great thanksgiving, just the 4 of us

. DH and I spent the morning cleaning out the coop, down to the cement floor, washed it, bleached it, let it air dry. We replaced the bedding and then dusted everyone for mites...SAW NOT A MITE ON THE WHOLE BUNCH!!

Still, I was thankful to be safe!! It gave me a lot of practice honing my chicken catching abilities! I am worried about one of my guineas - it looks like she was attacked by something, not sure what, but she appears to have some feathers missing around her shoulder area and it's filled with liquid. She will NOT let us catch her, I wanted to spray some Blue (oh pooh, I forgot what it's called, but you all know) on it just to make sure she was okay, but even at night, those blasted guineas are flighty!! DD 1 & 2 had fun hanging outside while we cleaned...DD1 kept asking to "help" and while I was thrilled that she wanted to help, I really did not want her playing in pooh and bleach, so I told her to sweep the concrete next to the coop.

She ran around the yard "sweeping". It was cute. After cleaning, we spent some time gathering "flowers" (aka giant leaves that DD1 thought were flowers...hehe) and just walking around our property dreaming big dreams!!

For those of you that like to bake...I LOATHE baking pies...still, Thanksgiving is not complete for my DH if there isn't a cherry pie...so I bite my tongue and made a cherry pie. Surprisingly, it tasted good (according to DH...but we can't trust him, he's said a lot of things tasted good that were NOT good...LOL)

Hollow - I am so happy you have some new chicks that are even closer to POL!! Your daddy is so thoughtful!!

Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!! Today I am spending the day with my sweet hubby & girls....he gets to play with the girls while I get to finish their Christmas dresses and start creating one for myself (oh joy...LOL). Have a great day today!!

Good morning folks

I hope everyone had a wonderful day with family
and friends yesterday......we did here.
I hoping for a little me time today with the DH
and my therapist......Priss. Since it is still
hunting season, the girls ( DH has a mare too)
will need to wear their " carrot suits", hunter
orange fly sheets. We will travel over to the state
land just a few miles down the road where
there should not be anyone hunting, but we know
that not "everyone" follows the rules, that's the
reason for the "carrot suits".

Hope everyone enjoys today too

Okay...everyone is uncrated, dusted down, and installed in their new digs. They were happy to see that it came with food! Turns out I brought 11 pullets and two roos, but one is the freebie roo they tucked into the shipment, and it's no Orpington! White with a couple brown spots, yellow legs and tight feathers. It'll be soup soon, otherwise it'll be hawk food. White birds don't survive long free-ranging.

I'll get them all wormed this afternoon, too. And get the chicks still in the house out to JDC this afternoon. I've still got to get some more lamps out there first.

Loving the chickens.

Happy day after T-day!!!

Busy day but not really. I let all the chickens out today, it was such a good warm day. The 2 weekers had a blast in their play area I set up for them. The 5 weekers were roaming around closer to the teenagers and big girls as well.

I did the Black Friday thing (why do they call it Black Friday, it's more like Consumer day really) but online. Never left the property. got some good deals on stuff I needed. Nothing big or extra, just stuff i needed that just happen to be on sale. snickers. half hour for that and back to all the animals.

The missus had a great T-day, 2 of her 3 kids showed up yesterday evening. Always a surprise, since we did not even know they were in the State. Don't ask, it's a long story. They left today leaving a very happy, surprised woman behind... It may be years til next she hears from them...

Sounds like everyone had a productive T-day and afterwards. I hope that those that did brave the black Friday masses or those who left town got everything or where they were go to. Now be safe on the return trip...

Seems we all had happy and productive T-days!
We finally got a pen built for the roo previously known as Houdini...now Elvis, and his 'ladies' Lisa Marie and Priscilla. The girls went right in after the food, but Elvis was leary of the pen. So last night when he went to roost on top of the BO's run, we picked him up and put him in his pen. When I go home from work, they are all three to roost and an egg in each nest box. One of these eggs is gigantic!! The small on in this pic is the size of a large grocery store egg. My goodness what an egg. I just reached in and grabbed them up and didn't notice which box I got the giant out of, each hen seems to prefer her 'own' box.

What are you guys dusting your chickens with and what for? I sprinkle DE in my coop when I clean it and have never had any problems, don't think that my babies are wormy or buggy

What should I be looking for?
I am just so happy to finally have them all in pens and finally getting eggs!
