Good morning Everyone!

I'm very late this morning. I had a final at 8:00, and had to load up all the goodies I baked for my students and get it all in the building and set up, so I had to leave at 6:00. And of course, my laptop was acting up and slow, so I abandoned it.

Tomorrow, I get to watch chickie TV as long as I want! Several of the RIR pullets and a couple Welsummers, along with the cockerels, are getting brave enough to come check out my fingers when I reach my hand down, so I'm going to start taking them treats. I think one or two of my RIR pullets may be roos, but we'll see. I wouldn't really mind much; I was regretting not getting at least one roo with them.

Enjoy the day! As soon as my last two students in this class finish up, I'll just have one more final to give today, and then it's all paperwork! WooHoo!

Good Morning Everyone :frow hope you all have a great day.. Unfortunately all my traps were empty this morning. So i closed them for the day and will resest them tonight. Today is coop cleaning day UGH. Guess i better go get started, hoping the rain holds off.

Watch them rir roos, they can be real mean. I had one that the dog pound dropped off and after two weeks he was so mean that I couldn't get eggs out of the pen. After the DH got tried of him (DH loved the rir hens we had so he wanted a roo to breed them) he went to be eaten by one of DH's workers. Unfortunately the guy didn't listen to DH about chopping his head THAN untying his legs, so he became a guard rooster under the man's porch. He told DH that the roo was better than any dog, as the roo would attack everything and everyone including him.

Yeah, I had a RIR roo before. Mean cuss. He made good soup. If I have to, I'll rotate them out fast so I only keep fairly young ones and not let them get old enough to challenge the other roos.

Oh...and since I now have a bigger incubator, I've decided to change up my breeding plan. I was simply going to alternate breeding groups in my two breeding pens, and that would keep my Hovabator busy. Not good enough for the cabinet one. So the entire back chickenhouse is going to be a rooster-free area. I can move girls up there for a month to clear them before getting put with a roo. That way I'll always have girls ready to breed, but they can still be free-ranging. I can plan ahead for what I want to breed. And the pens will rotate faster. Instead of having to have time for the girls to clear and breed true, they'll be clear before they go in, so I only have to wait until they are all well bred to collect eggs.

If your friend has dogs, he better tell them they are being replaced. laughs. I had A RIR that was that good that he would sit with my dogs. Not that the dogs had any choice. 9 out of ten times he beat them to the property line to chase off any visitiors I had. He made the fataly mistake one day of taken on the missus. he was soup that night. lesson learned was NEVER EVER PISS OFF THE MISSUS. even I am not that dumb!!!!!
