Raccoons are the filthiest animals ever if you ask me. I'm totally against any animal that leaves brain eating parasites laying about...

Oh, I know skunks and possums are trouble. We had a possum try to dig it's way into the coop last week, and we had what I think was the skunk from last night, sneak into the coop very early yesterday morning (after the chickens and ducks were out for the morning) and eat all the duck eggs in the nest and one of the chicken eggs, and then it ate all the remaining feed in the feeder!

My husband informs me that he heard on the news this morning that today is National Poultry Day! So...Happy National Poultry Day!

Thank you for all the help regarding what those two chicks are.... I was thinking that one was going to be a rooster,,,, even though I paid for a pullet from MMcM. Oh well cannot be perfect all the time.

Just be on the lookout.... I got the first tick of the season off my little girl yesterday.... I am a little nervous because she has a slight fever this morning but I think she got that from her bro who has been running a fever for two days. At least I hope so!

I am trying to come up with a way for the ladies to free-range so we can hopefully keep the ticks at bay this year. They were so awful last year. Guess I am going to have to tie the dog up for part of the day....

Has anyone used a plastic children's pool as a brooder. I've seen/read that it works just fine, but would any of you recommend AGAINST it?

We were planning on putting hardware mesh around the sides to create a wall around it. I guess I'm mostly concerned about the heat lamp being too much for it, since the material isn't as "durable" as a Rubbermaid tote or something like that.

Just checking in! Been super busy at the house trying to get ready for mini-me to come in less than 2 months! I got my bees and installed them and it was looking good only to go out on Sunday night to find an empty hive....?!?!?! Ohhh well, I guess I'll try again a little later in the season for those. Eggs in the 'bator dues the 27th! Spring officially starts tomorrow but it's supposed to be colder this week? Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
