Wow ive missed a lot as ive not been on in a bit hope everyone is great things here have been a bit shakey. All but two of my chickens were killed by the neighbors dog... he paid me ten dollars per chicken that died so he made things right and i was able to get some more birds... but now I cant let them freerange with the fear of the neighbors dog.

About a month ago I started Fostering a beautiful Saint Bernard who has heart worms. Most of her medication was sponsered by a rescue so all i really have had to buy is her food and of course give her the medication. Apparently Im her alpha becouse she took her meds fine for me but would not take them from anyone else... she has complete trustr in me lol. Only problem is the chickens make he excited and she likes to try and chase them.... as does my cat... I dont think she would ever hurt them on perpose but I have to monitor the situation.

aww, so sorry to hear about your chickens.

I'm glad you were able to get some more feathered friends, though I know it's never the same.

and GOOD FOR YOU FOR FOSTERING and THANK YOU!!! I dabble in dog rescue all the time, but it's always great through a rescue group... to help cover the costs. I've had a couple of mine (not fosters) who had heart worms when I rescued them. I know how hard the treatment is, bless your/her heart!! It sounds like she is taking well to her new 'mom' :). I had a Saint Benard foster at one time who had known nothing but being chained to a tree. He was a SWEETHEART, and took to me in the same manner. He became very protective and although he played well with other dogs (including my five), he snapped one day and killed our neighbors small dog. He had even played with this dog numerous times before, but I think he was being protective of his new "owner", or maybe even my other dogs because we happened to be in the yard.

Anyway, for the most part they are very gentle giants and wonderful dogs! It's so wonderful to hear a good foster experience. Good luck to you!

Funny story. But makes me feel like a bad chicken keeper, too.
Last night, I turn on the water in my bath room and have no pressure.
We are on a well and sometimes the pressure valve acts up and you have to motivate it (on our list of repairs we have just not gotten to yet.).
I open the access panel and what do I see......
My missing chicken, she has been under the house for almost a month.
She is still under the house.
How she got under there I have no idea.
Mission rescue starts in a few hours.
She will not let anyone near her.
We did notice that all of the spiders that lived near the door were gone.

Bless her little heart. Glad you found her. She will be happy to have some real feed!

I've had two babies hatch!!! So far both are pullets. These are from my Cream Legbar pair, Desi & Lucy. It sure took long enough! I thought I'd never get a fertile egg. Just hatched - still wet.
