North Carolina

Good morning everyone, feeling slow and tired today, yesterday was the first day in months I could get down to my friends and ride 'my' horse Blackjack, He is such a wild thing, he gave me a stern talking to followed by a nip and tthen on the trail proceeded to buck me, then came over got in my face and nickered.

I guess that was my warning, the rest of the trail was awesome, spent 4 hours wondering around and the weather was just perfect.

Came home and decided to extend the pen for my pig, so that she had more grass and sun.
Then had to clean cages. So owwww I hurt, O well time to suck it up

and walk up to the store.

Hope you all have a great day. Here are some pics for ya'll to enjoy

Scott (Nice that you had a good 4 hour ride, after the o-****!)

NH...Ducks lay at night or VERY early in the morning.  You will find the nest eventually......  hopefully before it gets too warm !! :sick

TC: WCA is in Clayon ( WIlson Mills)  Johnston County.

SEE...then they just can't be laying.  I don't let them out until late morning and they are locked up before dark (I fear the coyotes/boars/cats/dogs/etc... around here)...so they SHOULD be laying in the coop if they are laying at all.  Either that...or they are holding them in until they are released (around 9-10am) and laying while my back is turned...those EVIL girls!!  :lau   I doubt we will find the nest with any eggs as the coons/opossums and such have been out in abundance lately - had an opossum visit my trash can last night (poor thing didn't find anything useful...LOL)...so IF there are eggs, they have probably been eaten, that's my guess.  :(   Who knows...maybe I'll get lucky and find some this weekend and it would be a GREAT surprise!!

Did you all see that by Tuesday it's suppose to be 80??  I sure hope we DO warm up...I want to start getting my summer veggies planted outside...LOL  I've been craving watermelon this ENTIRE pregnancy!!  LOL
That usually means that your iron is low. Easy to happen when pregnant. I'm prone to low iron anyway, but watermelon is full of it, and it's why when pregnant most women crave watermelon...

I wish I could go down and ride him more, he is technically not my horse, he belongs to a friend of mine that does trail rides, and since I have been going there for near on ten years now, i have gotten to know him and Blackjack real well and he trusts me enough to just let me get on the horse and go. Pat told me he swore Blackjack knew I was coming because he pictched a fit and stood up the gate all day, refused to be saddled for other riders. Blackjack has been the first horse I really bonded to, and even though he is sprirted and hard to handle sometimes he is just an awesome horse. I wish to death he were mine and i could board him close to home, but Pat won't sell him, so I'll settle for the 2 hour drive to go see him.

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Loading up cookies, raspberries, and lots of birds to go to WCA today! Please save my corner! That forward corner is lousy for anyone else, but with my high chair, I can still see. :)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Have a great day at WCA everyone!! Sure wish it wasn't on Sundays, but even so, I am determined I will sneak away one day and make my appearance. Maybe I'll use having a baby as an excuse and bring the new one along (whenever she arrives)...you know...just to get some "recuperation"!

Hollow's treats would be just a HUGE bonus!! It's suppose to be a wonderful day, so be sure to enjoy the weather and fellowship!!

ETA: I think I have a BROODY!! She was in the nesting box last night and she is in the same spot this morning...going to check on her this afternoon to see if she is still sitting in there. If so...I think I might need to start asking around for some eggs to hatch!! LOL...what should I add to my flock?? I'd LOVE English Orpingtons, but knowing my ability to hatch roosters...I am thinking I might need something else...LOL

Advice please?

A friend and I are looking for small numbers of specific breeds in the NC Sandhills area (I'm in Moore, she's in Hoke). She wants EE and RIR, I want Delaware, Australorp, Light Brahma, or Dark Brahma -- 4 hens in a combination of these breeds -- and wouldn't say no Silver-gray Dorkings or to Silver-laced Wyandottes if they were southern-bred and OK with the heat (I was told that Wyandottes often don't do well in the steamy southeast).

Any recommendations for getting chicks or started pullets in these breeds in our general area?

I don't have any of those specialized breeds or know anyone. Symer-byrd farm is about an hour and half away and may have some of those breeds but they are expensive.
